General Tools 1261-4 1/2-Inch Grommet Refill, 24 Sets

Refill for my General 81264 Gromet Tool Kit. I used it to create a reinforced hole in the floor mat for my car's "carpet hook". Done this several different times and it hold up just fine. I never experienced any issues with the thickness of the metal. Never needed grease or anything, just the tools in the kit.

Good quality - did not rust throughout the winter.

So personally I struggled with these. I probably should’ve done more research but I had no idea I needed a whole kit to use these. I ended up ordering one but it took me forever to find a die kit that fit the grommets I used, then when I was able to put them in my poster boards they were a little crooked. I am giving them a four because over all they don’t look bad but it was difficult to use. Like I said this could’ve definitely been used error

Nice amount of grommets for the price. I use these on my golf towels so they can be fit on a carabiner. These grommets hold up great.

Works like it should.

Good quality, heavy metal. You do need a lot of force to install. I found it best to use the blacktop driveway with a metal hammer. A mallet just didn't work. Would recommend.

The General brand 1/2" grommets we received are significantly thicker, heavier-duty and have a higher quality feel than the ones that came with our China-made grommet press. (The crudely cast press is just barely OK) Since we couldn't afford to have those soft, thin, undersize grommets that came with the press kit fail and damage expensive stage fabrics, we ordered and installed the more expensive solid brass General grommets. General grommets state "made in India" on the blister packs and have held up well under stresses we estimate at 10 pounds each, dead weight, and probably double that in shearing load when the drapes are drawn open or closed at walking speed. The grommets are set on 12" centers through a 1/16" jute upholstery web stitched to two layers of the velvet. The holes for the grommets were prepunched through the layers with a separate punch-and -mallet setup, using a hockey puck as an anvil to protect the sharpened edge of the punch and the shop floor from damage.

Very happy with these “no rust” grommets! They were purchased for items that would have to be washed, so it was important to find grommets that were solid brass, as opposed to plated. Be sure if that is an issue for you, that the ones you are purchasing are not “brass plated.” Many products advertise as “brass,” then the fine print mentions being plated, and after a couple of washes you have rust running down your item... we learned this the hard way. Oops. Excellent product, as so far (knock on wood), no rust.

Some of the washers were not lined up correctly when they were stamped with the curve but they worked well enough for my application. Also a few of the necks split as they were being installed. Could have been me, but worth mentioning. Those washers love to stack together so make sure you triple check you've only got one when you install it. You don't get extras.
