Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Knife Set with Cutting Board & Cover

I have been looking for a board to use with my mezzaluna for years! I have used old bowls, cutting boards, and purchased a few wooden bowls because using a mezzaluna on a cutting board means things fly, or just fall off. It is so nice to finally have one the right size and shape, to be able to chop nuts, or herbs to the correct size for a recipe and not to have to get out a food processor or chopper or blender for half a cup of nuts. The package with the mezzaluna and board is such a good deal that I bought it even though I already had a mezzaluna, and because I wanted to be absolutely sure it fit, (It does). My old Mezzaluna is by KitchenAid, and it is exactly the same size and shape as the one which comes with this set. In fact, they are almost indistinguishable but for the color. The well on the board is just right, width and depth. It fits the blade well and will hold 1/2-1 cup of chopped nuts. It is nice and thick and easy to clean, easy to store. It is made of solid wood, beech wood I believe. It is not made of glued or laminated pieces, like some cutting boards I have gotten. I wouldn't call it a display item, but it is solid and well enough made that it ought to last a good long time and not split from humidity or a light washing. I am very happy with this set and would buy it again without a second thought.

I got this to match an Ulu knife I got and this cutting board is the best. It cleans very well, and even though my Ulu knife is a different brand, the curve of this cutting board is perfect and I've never chopped as well as with this board and the Ulu knife. It is not too thick but it is sturdy. It is not ugly, and the wood is a nice grain, light color, and has a slight sheen and protective coat on it. I've used it about 3-4x so will have to see how it holds up over time. I hand wash it without any problems, would not put in dishwasher as it's wood. I really love this board and look for excuses to use it when cooking, I'm constantly asking my wife if I can do the chopping and cutting so I think she likes the purchase as well. Ha.

I love that this set has a cutting board that is just as easy to clean as the cutting tool. The blade is sharp so there's no worry of cutting myself. The handle is easy to grip with arthritic hands. The plastic handle is slightly textured, which allows for a solid grip even with wet hands. I can't say whether the same applies for those with large hands. Appears to be more suitable for those with medium or small hands. With arthritis, one doesn't want to put their hands in small holes - I'm sure anyone trying to use scissors understands. I don't use the sheath to cover the blade, it's just too tiny of a slot to risk the blood everywhere scenario I imagine when I consider making use of the flimsy protector. If you are confident you have very sturdy hands, go for it. But don't say you weren't warned. My ears won't be the ones traumatized by the screaming and foul language.

The knife is good. Thin metal blade didn't arrive seemingly "sharp", but does cut well. Don't know yet about sharpening it. NOW the wood cutting board is great! Want an better Alaskan knife and a cutting board? Buy this and use the knife for a back up.

Very nice wood easy to clean, durable

Chopping/mincing herbs and such is so easy with this mezzaluna. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and the size of the board. It is concave, and appears to be of maple - I am not sure, but it's close-grained and smooth. I was struck by its generous size, especially because the price was so reasonable. The edge-to-edge diameter of the board is approx. 8.5 inches, with about a 1-inch thickness. You could turn the board upside down and use it as a cheese tray (it does not have feet on the underside, which is OK with me). Moving on the the blade: it is SHARP and thin. It is well-balanced and easy to rock. It comes with a blade cover, which I feel is a necessity. The only caveat I will offer - the aforementioned cover fits very, very snugly. Be super careful when putting it back on the knife!!!

The curved cutting board is smooth, with beautiful wood grain. It’s 10 inches in diameter, sturdy, and a rounded 1.25 inches thick. It looks like a work of art and makes using the curved blade easy. An excellent tool that looks good on the countertop.

I love the Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Cutting Board! The wood is gorgeous and the shape is perfect for my Mezzaluna. I chop fresh herbs like basil and parsley and enjoy how easy it is to chop. And the size is right for a handful of herbs. It is easy to clean too. The blade only goes into the wood a little bit and the cuts are not highly visible. AND one can use the other side for a round cheese platter! How great is that! So glad I ordered from Checkered Chef. Best cutting bowl I’ve ever had! Delivery was prompt. I highly recommend!

Love it for chopping all my herbs fresh from the garden or frozen. Bought one for my friend as well,for a gift as they look lovely on open shelving in the kitchen.

Here again I needed a new top for this old table the size of it is 24 cm, very difficult to find. A neighbour cut a board for me once, which I covered with that new idea of Acrylic pouring, very nice till I had the idea to put resin on top. That ruined the whole thing, so I was looking for another solution and found this beautiful Mezzaluna board. I liked it so much, that a bought a second one a short time later, maybe I will do some Acrylic pouring on the back of that one, though I might use it for chopping as intented. The wood itself is beautiful and should really not be ruined by adding paint.

Purchase yo use with an Ulu I bought in Alaska - it works great for chopping herbs without a mess

Product looks excellent but I’d much better than I expected. That wasn’t fault not the sellers.
