Worked Really Well for Me
Bought the 40L travel backpack to use on a recent trip to Europe. The 40L accommodated everything I wanted to take with me without issue. I’ve traveled a lot over the years for both business and pleasure and I’ve learned how to travel light, so the 40L was plenty of space for me. I make use of compression packing cubes to keep everything organized and I’ve simply just learned to not overpack. Overall, the pack feels very well made from quality materials, so I believe it should last being subjected to the type of robust traveling I do. Zippers seem sturdy and all seams are well sewn. The handles are robust and well cushioned. I had no problem carrying the pack by hand. I also like the simplicity of the bag. One big packing compartment and a zippered mesh compartment. No interior dividers or extra zippered pockets means more packing space for the things I want to carry. Again, I use packing cubes and drawstring bags to keep everything organized. Used it in both duffle bag mode and backpack mode. I like that I can hide the shoulder straps behind the zippered cover for boarding planes and trains. It made getting the travel pack through the aisles and up into the overhead bins easier. I had no problems fitting it into the overhead bins and the airlines didn’t flag me for having too big of a carry-on or a “backpack”. The handles at the top of the bag and on the side helped with getting it out of the overhead compartment and off the plane. It was also comfortable when I used it as a backpack. The fully adjustable strap system with hip belt allows you to find a fit that is comfortable for your body. Using the compression straps on the back to hold my jacket in place when not in use is also a plus. And on the 40L you get the accessible, top pocket to hold smaller items, which I like as it’s nice to have a pocket for quick access to certain smaller things. Note, the 55L version does not have this top pocket/compartment as Osprey assumes you will be using the included 15L travel daypack as part of your travel system. There’s a back pocket underneath the compression straps that’s deep enough for a light sweater, water bottle, snacks, etc. A few things to note on the design. First would be to add more, softer padding to the laptop sleeve behind the shoulder straps. I feel like the padding for the laptop sleeve is a bit “stiff”. My laptop survived the trip with no problems, but I didn’t bang the backpack around very much. Also, the laptop sleeve extends inside the main compartment of the bag and is held in place on each corner by a hook and loop system. This allows the laptop sleeve to be lifted up, maybe so you can place something under the sleeve such as papers. I’m not entirely sure why Osprey designed the laptop sleeve this way, but that’s the design. So, you will be packing items directly on top of the laptop sleeve in the main compartment. This was not a deal breaker for me, but the user should be aware of this system. You also access the laptop compartment from the side of the bag instead of the top. Not an issue for me but for some users they may not like that system. I had no problem fitting my iPad Air and 14” PC in the computer sleeve. The shape of the travel pack is more oval or teardrop than square with the oval being slightly bigger at the base of the bag. Some people may prefer a square packing compartment over this design but I had no packing issues. Just make a mental note of it. The straps have excessive length and dangle. I’m assuming this is to accommodate all body sizes and clothing bulk. It’d be great if Osprey provided strap retainers to make the excess strap lengths more organized, but they don’t. I ended up 3D printing simple strap organizers which did the trick of eliminating the dangling issue. Fortunately, if you don’t have an 3D printer, Amazon sells strap retainers, so a purchaser should consider getting some if dangling straps bother them. You say you can’t decide between the 40L and 55L? Let me give you some clarity to help. The 55L Farpoint main pack is exactly the same packing size as the 40L. In order to get the additional 15L in packing space, Osprey added a 15L, detachable travel daypack that sits on top of the main pack. Yes, the 15L travel daypack is a nice feature. It gives you a detachable, 15L smaller backpack that you can use separately from the travel backpack for when you’re touring around a city. Some people might like the 15L travel daypack addition, but not me. I chose to go in a different direction and use the Osprey 13L Daylite pack instead. The 13L Osprey Daylite pack incorporates/attaches well with/to my 40L Farpoint and I prefer it over the 15L travel daypack for many reasons that are too long for this review. Overall, for the price (I bought mine when it was on sale), this is a solid travel backpack. It has a good cost to quality to usefulness ratio. Yes there are other, more expensive travel backpacks out there that are geared towards world travel adventures - but this one will be more than sufficient for the average, on-the-go traveler who goes on a few trips each year.

Awesome, large travel backpack.
Sturdiest feeling backpack I've ever owned. I've only owned a few backpacks as an adult, but this one is by far the best feeling. It's currently not tested, because as of writing I've had it for approximately a week, and I've not worn it out. However, you can feel it's construction. This bag has a frame, which is new to me, all of my backpacks have been soft, with just canvas and other fabrics. This one has some sort of frame inside. This does keep it from collapsing, which could be an issue, but the whole point of this bag is that you're supposed to be able to fit everything in it for a short trip. This bag can do that. For me, I bought it because I'm a big guy, with big clothes, and I just need lots of space in my backpack. Not a super versatile EDC bag, but it is a very versatile travel bag. I'm using it as an EDC bag because it's big and I need that kind of space. However, if you don't need lots of space, probably get a 30L or less bag.

Great Backpack
I have used this pack for the last 5 months traveling Thailand, Vietnam and Australia. I have checked and carried on this bag (depending on the airline and weight). I have used compression packing cubes and easily get a week’s worth of clothing plus extra shoes and toiletries. Bag has held up great. The compression straps do a good job of holding everything together. You can really use racket the straps down tight to make everything fit. I am looking to upgrade to a 70l for my next trip (9 months).

Excellent, highly recommend. Please read my review.
Really two bags in one. One 40L and the other a 15L that can attach to each other or be used separately. Used for the first time last month on a trip to Europe. I packed the main 40L bag with clothes and the 15L with small items that I would possibly need on the plane. 40L was considered a carryon which was placed in the overhead bin and the 15L was my personal item stored under the seat in front of me. Once off the plane I meshed or attached the two packs together and carried it that way using the backpack straps and hip belt. Very adjustable and comfortable. I pack very lite so together with everything inside both bags it weighed 21 pounds. I highly recommend the Osprey Farpoint 55L. This is tailored to men. I believe the Fairpoint 40 is built for women. My wife liked my set up so much she ditched her backpack in Europe and bought the Fairpoint 40L for women in a really cool looking purple color. She was only carrying about 15 pounds of stuff so super comfortable for her. Both bags have backpack straps and hip belt that can be tucked away and zipped up so you can carry the 40L bags using a side or top handle. Very handy. Excellent choice for us and excellent quality made bags. We are sticking with these bags and ditching our roller bags. Thank you Osprey for a great product.

Six Flights And It's Doing Great
Got this for a trip to Greece and Italy. Easy to pack and with 2 weeks worth of clothes plus a lightweight wool jacket and a pair of shoes and second smaller backpack crammed inside, only weighed 16KG - plenty of extra weight available for souvenirs on the trip back. The backpack straps are comfortable and easy to adjust. Pack is very well balanced when on the back. Straps stow away easily. Materials seem durable and I haven't noticed any fraying or seams coming apart - construction quality is good. In contrast, the inexpensive Chinese army backpack I had flown with previously started looking tatty after only a couple flights, which is what prompted me to pick up this Osprey as an upgrade. The 80L size is good; as stated above, I could fit 2 weeks worth of clothes no problem. Main compartment is easily secured with a TSA-approved lock. Easily fit my shampoo and other such wet things in the upper outside compartment to keep it contained in case of a spill. Shoe compartment is also outside the main, so your clothes won't get dirty. Only complaint is that I wish there were a better system for securing the loose ends of the cinch straps, especially if the pack is full and the loose ends are short, but still able to get snagged potentially - it's a small complaint - when the loose ends are longer, it is easier to tuck them away. One problem I ran into was at Rome Fiumincino airport when the guy at check-in for ITA Airways tried to insist it was Oversized luggage because it had some trouble going through their (smaller than everyone else's) baggage conveyer. Eventually, I got him to relent and he let it get checked in the regular baggage and there was zero problems with it being handled after that. It has smaller dimensions than any typical large suitcase, so his insistence that it was oversized was BS, but the issue with the conveyer may have been because the pack was stuffed pretty full in a way that made it kind of awkwardly lumpy and odd shaped. I would say it is best to take care of when packing it that it doesn't get overstuffed into an odd shape (especially if flying with ITA! Turkish Airlines gave me zero trouble). The straps can be a little difficult to get into when it is fully laden, but once you're in, you're in and it is very comfortable. The side handle for carrying it like a duffle is a little bit off-balance, but it is still more comfortable than the handles on most duffles I've encountered. The top handle is very helpful for when yanking it off the baggage conveyer or out of a trunk. The internal frame is wonderful. Overall, I will say a solid 4.5 stars, because it's not totally perfect enough for 5, but it's still great. Flight-ready backpacks such as this are the way to go and I will never go back to using a suitcase for international travel.

Excellent quality and exceeded my expectations
I recently purchased the Osprey Farpoint 40 backpack, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with my decision. The product arrived in perfect condition, exactly as described. It fully meets my expectations in every aspect. The materials are of excellent quality, and the overall design feels durable and well thought out. It’s clear that this is a high-quality product built to last. I’m very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to others.

Nearly perfect carry-on backpack for organized, comfortable travel
I’ve used the Osprey Farpoint 40L on a few trips now and it’s one of the most thoughtfully designed travel backpacks I’ve owned. The size is ideal for carry-on travel and fits easily in overhead bins while still holding enough for multi-day trips. The clamshell opening makes packing feel more like a suitcase than a traditional backpack, which keeps everything organized and easy to access without digging around. Comfort is where this bag really stands out. The harness and hip belt distribute weight well, even when the pack is fully loaded, and the back panel ventilation helps on longer walks through airports or cities. The structure of the bag keeps it from sagging or feeling bulky, and the compression straps help tighten everything down so it doesn’t shift while moving. The Muted Space Blue color looks clean and professional without standing out too much, and the materials feel durable enough for frequent travel. Zippers are smooth, stitching is solid, and overall build quality matches what you’d expect from Osprey. If you’re using this as a strict carry-on, packing cubes make a big difference in maximizing space and keeping things organized. Also, slightly underpacking helps the bag slide into tighter overhead compartments more easily on smaller planes. Overall, this is a reliable, comfortable, and well-designed travel backpack that works especially well for one-bag travel or long weekend trips.

Large capacity travel pack
Just got it and so far it’s great. Material and layout is great as expected from Osprey. Zippers feel smooth and the capacity is excellent. I’m currently packing for a week long trip including a day at the beach and a 4 night cruise. Typically I try to pack more minimalistic but cruises are my exception to that so this thing is currently holding several days worth of clothes with some room to spare. The day pack isn’t very big at 15L but feels almost as big as my 24L Mystery Ranch pack I use as daily work bag. The day pack is tall and narrow but has a dump pouch and internal pouch plus the main compartment. It can hold a pair of shoes or a small packing cube plus a laptop. The 40L version has a bit more organization I think on the main pack along with the water bottle pockets. On this 55L version that’s all on the day pack which caught me off guard but I think it’ll be great for air travel. I can detach the day pack and have my water under the seat. I’ll update if I encounter any issues on my trip but so far this seems like a great value with a large versatile compartment!

Excellent quality and fits very well on my back
Outstanding bag..used it a lot meanwhile. I only broke by accident a plastic part to close the belt on your hips and I don’t know if and how to replace it. So if there is a solution it would be wonderful

Perfect for travel!
Been using the Farpoint 40 for a few trips now and it’s easily one of the best travel backpacks I’ve owned. Perfect size for carry-on but still holds loads of gear thanks to the smart layout and compression straps. Super comfy to wear, even when fully loaded, and the straps tuck away neatly if you’re checking it in. Loads of handy pockets too for organising everything. Only thing is the back panel can get a bit warm on hot days, but that's to be expected with any big pack. Top quality build and worth every penny for travellers.
