First choice for DVD
I moved into this house in 2015 . I bought a new DVD player it died last week - not bad for 11 years. Mostly streaming these days so I just bought a new cheap one - ITS THE SAME MODEL I BOUGHT 11 YEARS AGO just ยฃ200 cheaper. Quality top drawer - affordability superb - durability excellent - build quality first class. works straight out of the box just plug in. It'll probably outlive me!!

Excellent Blu-Ray Player
I have a stack of Blu-Rays and DVDs that have sat on shelves for years. I was going to get rid of some of them, and I have donated some to a local charity shop. The rest, some box sets, etc now seem to go for pennies on auction sites, it wasn't worth the hassle selling them. I decided I would get the cheapest Blu-Ray player possible to watch them. After doing a bit of research I discovered that a Sony - an actual named player - was so reasonably priced. I presumed I would have to get some make I'd never heard of. I have paid a staggering amount of money in the past for Sony players. The unit itself is very small, but sturdy and of great quality. The disk drawer is behind a panel, which flips down when you press eject. I had connected it with a network cable to my router, but after checking for a software update I was informed the player was up to date. Apart from that, there really is no need to have the player connected to the Internet. You are presented with three options on power-up: disc, USB and settings. I popped in a Blu-Ray disc and first noticed how whisper quiet the player was. No noise at all. Picture quality was fabulous. I really had forgotten how great Blu-Ray is. I did have an issue with the sound though, the audio was slightly out of sync, which did ruin the experience. I simply changed the audio settings to PCM. This was after adjusting the A/V SYNC made no difference. Sound is clear, picture is great. The only (slightly) disappointing aspect is the remote, which does seem a little cheap, but it does everything you want it to do and all features are accessible including power, eject, etc. Navigating the menus is easy as there are so few of them. I did have an issue with the player not recognising a Seagate 2TB external drive. Tried different formatting, exFat and NTFS, but made no difference. Tried smaller partitions and it would only recognise one 200GB partition. In the end I simply had to delete the volume in disk manager and then convert to MBR. Worked perfectly then. Multi region too. Tried a couple of R1 DVDs and they played perfectly. All-in-all an excellent Blu-Ray player, which is tremendous value for money.

Its good!
Ok so it doesnt come with a HDMI cable. You will need one of these! I thought the player was broken at first, turned out it was the old HDMI cable i had found out that wasnt working. So found another one that i knew worked. Well it works! And it works really well! Once you have it set up it really is great. Its easy to use, the remote control is also easy enough to use. Iv seen some previous reviews stating volume issues, mine is fine! Not too loud, not too quiet. But it does what you want it to do. So no complaints here!

A brilliant budget UHD player
Bought this to replace my Panasonic UHD player that decided to fail. The Sony UBP-X700 is an ultra compact, no frills UHD player. There are no smart features, meaning that the OS is lightweight and therefore boots almost instantly. There is no Wi-Fi but there is an ethernet port. I personally donโt like a player connected to the internet as the BD Live feature is just an annoyance, any software updates can be done via the USB port on the front of the device. The one huge plus and a definite win for this player is the ability to switch the auto standby feature off, meaning that it doesnโt switch itself off after 20 minutes of inactivity. Picture quality is superb and playback is excellent. The player can upscale non 4K content, although I have this feature switched off as my LG TV does a brilliant job of this itself. One thing to note is that the upscale option Auto1 should only be used if you have a Sony TV. Auto2 is for non Sony TVs. I had to Google this as the Auto1 option was making the picture judder slightly. Overall this player is superb and I can highly recommend it.

Good value
Needed to upgrade to HDMI connectivity for smart tv - very easy to set up, compact and light, has far more features than I will ever use, so great value for the price. Beware though - it does not come with an HDMI cable, you have to supply it yourself. A good product let down by delivery - despite requesting to hide the manufacturer's packaging this came in just the Sony box, which delivery person left on my doorstep for all to see and potentially make off with.

Reads multiple formatsโฆ even MP4 ๐
Great player! I bought this player as a big wedding anniversary is coming up soon and our wedding video dvd format is MP4. Where previously I just put the dvd in my laptop and connected that to the TV, nowadays laptops donโt have CD drives anymore. But luckily I found out, by asking google AI, that this BluRay Player also reads MP4 format straight off the disc. As a bonus, the Sony interface actually plays well with my LG oled TV and can control it with my normal TV remote. No need for multiple remotes that always gets lost in the junk drawer.
