What type of pin and lock ring do I need to secure this

No, as the description suggests this is a 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch adapter to be used with a wrench with a 1/2 inch wrench. This will not fit your "drill" as this is specifically designed to be used by a "wrench"!

Can i use it with standard ratchet?

If you have a half inch 1/2" wrench then this will fit onto the 1/2" square wrench and you can then use 1/4" hex tools with it! It really is that simple, just make sure that you use impact bits if your using an impact wrench however no need if it's a manual wrench.

When I fit adaptor to wrench (1/2"), there is a fair bit play on it & not a snug fit which results in movement for any bits inserted, is this normal?

I have 2 Makita impact wrenches 1/2 anvil and it fits snug on board
