"With each turn of the page I found myself nodding โฒexactly!โฒ Whether as a class text assigned by faculty or as a self-study resource used by students, this book will resonate with readers." โDoug Leigh, Associate Professor of Education Pepperdine University Use these focused guidelines to help you through every stage of the dissertation process! Writing a dissertation requires focus and commitment. The Education Dissertation provides a step-by-step process for developing and completing an academically rigorous dissertation in a time-efficient manner. Written for doctoral students in education who are also currently working in the field, this book provides specific and accessible guidance for the entire process, from finding a topic to conducting the literature review to writing and defending the dissertation. Grounded in adult learning theory, this volume: Offers a clear, easy-to-follow approach that highlights key milestones with concrete goals and workable methods at each step Discusses how practitioner scholars can apply their work experience to the dissertation Includes organizational templates complete with detailed charts, checklists, a timeline, student examples, and rubrics Provides tips throughout to help students think through situations Covers both quantitative and qualitative research Perfect for practicing educators at any stage of the dissertation process, this resource provides the "big picture" framework as well as the nitty-gritty details. Review: Should be required for ed.d programs - I put off reading this until I was in the comp exam stage of my program.:.. I wish it had been a required reading in the first semester! This book is so helpful for setting the stage for approaching the dissertation process. Easy to understand, while also still being comprehensive! Review: A MUST for Ed.D. candidates!! Should be a course required reading - This is the first product on desertcart - after hundreds of great purchases - that I feel compelled to write. I am an Ed.D. student that has been struggling to write my dissertation due to several of the 'life' pitfalls that the introduction details. I love my chair but I get such little face time and our program prepared us in many respects for this next phase but fell short in really going deep into the process of writing one's dissertation. Educational research has many unique challenges as well that I'm not sure I completely felt I understood well enough to anticipate mistakes in methods or conceptualizing a research design. I found this guide by chance, downloaded it onto kindle, read through it in two evenings and I have a renewed sense of hope and energy. I can clearly see now structurally what had been misaligned or missing from my initial proposal. I recommend this guide to ALL Ed.D. students - it is a small price to pay to have something like a dissertation 'whisperer' in your ear! Thank you Dr. Butin! I was really feeling down on myself for not being able in the mist of juggling the demands of work, family, and research to figure out why I was getting stuck in the writing process. This guide is practical, thorough, and extremely accessible!

Docotral Students a must have book!
This textbook is terrific, not only does it assist you understanding the dissertation process, it helps you along the whole process from beginning to end. Reading on your Kindle makes it even better as you can take it anywhere even during residency. Right off from the table of contents you will find many aids such as organizational templates, synthesis of research, hints along the way and even relevant activities and examples of student work. The book even assists you in articulating a topic in academic speaking. Not to mention the price is right at under 20 dollars on the Kindle. Your university will charge you more, why not buy it at a bargain price and take it with you where ever you go without the hassle of taking your textbooks with you. Thanks Amazon.

Great read, easy read.
This book breaks the dissertation process down in an easily comprehensible format, including sample timelines, descriptions, and tips. It was easy to read, giving a much needed break from academia's rhetoric. It definitely helped to ease my anxiety about approaching the dissertation process!

A "go to" book for practical scholars!
I'm not all the way through this book as yet, but so far, it has been extremely helpful in my own dissertation journey. Many of us choosing the Ed.D. route are faced with mentors and chairs who may not understand the practical side of a doctorate, so this book is a must read! I would recommend it not only to doctoral students, but also to dissertation mentors and chairs. It is definitely my "go to" book now as I am working on my doctorate in education.

Wow! Makes the process very clear.
This book is fairly short. It is written by a professor who worked with many graduate students and who listened and wrote about their concerns. I found the book very useful while working on my doctoral degree. It informed me of the steps involved and some of the pitfalls to avoid. It is fairly engaging despite being written by a professor!

Well written
The Education Dissertation book is ideal for those are pursuing a Doctorate of Education. But in includes useful templates as well as helpful insights for the doctoral student. Due to the subject, it may be challenging to read without becoming drowsy for some. It is worth the effort to read each chapter and it it not a long book. You can do it!

Great resource for EdD students
This book is very helpful. It clearly defines the work that needs to be done in order to accomplish the writing of a doctoral thesis. I'm currently using it for a course in an EdD program. I think it is a great resource for EdD students or students who are anticipating doing an EdD program. Certainly, had I known how good it was, I would have purchased it earlier in my EdD.
