Nice piece of kit
This is a nice well made piece of kit. Simple to install and easy to operate. I used it to replace the main wall mounted on/off switch on the immersion heater. It fitted straight into the back plate of the switch. My plan is to use the immersion heater instead of running the oil-fired boiler when only hot water is required in the summer months - thus saving money. I can now do this without the worry of leaving the heater on. Options of selecting 15/30/45 minutes suit fine. I highly recommend this item for the task described. The price is about right.

Complete satisfaction
We live in Cyprus. We dont have central heating or solar panels so rely solely on our immesion heater for hor water. This device is a "godsend" no more wondering if we turned the immersion heater off hours after we have left home. This item turns off automaticaly. we have 3 independant sellections 15 mins for washing up or one shower...30 mins for two showers ....60 mins for all other uses (although we havnt had cause to use the 60 mins yet) Its such a simple device and is easy for a qualified electrician to replace your obsolete switch and fit this "Horstmann Boost Timer" and it gives peice of mind and saves money. It will pay for itself in a couple of months. The company we bought ours from OKANE PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL were fantastic. This item is a "MUST" if you let your property out to tennants or you have elderly relatives that use immersion heating....Its Fantastic!!!Well pleased!!! (I have no connection whatsoever with the selling company or the manufacturer's of this item)

Changed my life
Every time I was going on holidays or going to be away all day came the dreaded thought "did I leave the immersion on?" If I wasn't too far from home I'd turn back to check it, other times I'd have to ask my neighbour with a key to check if for me. 9/10 I hadn't left it on. Sometimes the opposite happened where I didn't think I left it on and came home to a tank of boiling hot water I didn't need. Well, no more, thanks to one handy button. Just one less thing to worry about. So installation.. I have no idea. The electrician did it. I assume it was straightforward enough or he'd have let me know. The quality seems fine and I've been using it for a year without issues. How it works. It replaces the on/off switch that controls the immersion. Press it once and it comes on for 15 minutes, twice for 30 mins, 3 times for an hour, and a 4th time to cancel. You can also cancel it before the end of a cycle. This review is for the E15 model. There are other models too, such as the E30 (30 mins, 60 mins, 2 hours) and the E246 (2 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours). I saw one of these in my local gym too. They use it to control a fan above some exercise bikes. So there's a few uses for this product.

Case cutouts are tricky
The instructions made this easy for me to install without calling an electrician. I'm a lowish skill DIYer so I needed clear instructions and found that the documentation was very helpful - clearly labeled diagrams and safety instructions. Diagram options include flush and non flush wall fittings. The box does need to be earthed. The problem I had was in "poking through" a hole into the indicated cable cutout in the plastic case. I needed to do this in order to feed the appliance's thick 13A cable into the Horstmann switch. There's no way to simply poke the lightly scored hole through the thick plastic casing so a drill, as far as I can tell, is needed if you want to feed cable into the bottom of the unit whilst having it flush to the wall. The cosmetic results weren't neat although nobody will ever see this because the hole is at the bottom of the installed unit and, moreover, it's not a safety issue. For me though, it speaks of non user friendly design and it does let the product down. Aside from this problem, it's a clearly a high quality unit made from thick and robust plastic that gives the unit a solid feel unlike the failed Timeguard booster unit I was replacing which is light and somewhat flimsy in comparison (although it does have sensible cable cutouts). This Horstman unit has a red LED which only comes on when the unit is in boost mode (when it is giving power to the appliance). The boost button selects from the three available boost time options - 15, 30 or 60 minutes. I would recommend the switch and would not hesitate to buy another one.

A great saver
Easy to wire in for anyone with some electric diy skills. I used it for an immersion heater. It goes in between the fused isolation switch and the immersion.i,e Mains into fused box. Output from fused box into boost timer input and output from boost timer to immersion heater cable. Due to the depth od the electronic bits it needs something like a 45mm socket, I allowed the extra depth for wires so it may be best to buy this and then buy a box later. Very Very easy to use. press once for 15 mins, press again for 30 mins press again for 1 hour and press again for off. So, if you press twice by mistake, just keep pressing to switch it off and start again. A very well thought out idea.

Perfect boost for the central heating
I purchased this timer to go alongside the room stat so that I could over-ride it for short periods without having to re-set it. I found that you need a live and a neutral mains supply to make it work, but that was OK. I looks good and works exactly as required. I think I shall save a bit on the oil central heating costs a a result.

Excellent saves mony soon as fitted.
Great little item. Will save us money now on electric as both my husband and myself put immersion on for 20 mins but forget soon as we walk off. Then 2 hours later remember that its still on .sometimes 6 or 8 hours later .So instantly saving money with this item. Now Just have to train husband to switch off shed light ,fire in spare room and oven when finished cooking. This is a good start though. RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT

Horstman
Good bit of kit. Have fitted to heated towel rail excellent quality very well made. Would suggest a fairly deep back box I have a 25mm thats about the minimum. It needs a switched fuse spur in series to provide protection and local isolation.
