Would recommend! Review: A REAL treasure chest... - I'd been planning to buy this great collection for some time, and finally I was able to get it as a Christmas present - and what I got was a treasure chest in every sense of the word: two boxes with 35 DVDs containing ALL of the 70 episodes of that marvelous series starring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot; David Suchet who actually 'BECAME' Poirot in the 25 years during which he impersonated Agatha Christie's famous, eccentric Belgian sleuth, as he himself states in an interview which is also included in this priceless collection. Every single episode is a real treat for every Agatha Chistie fan (and not only, of course); the cast is excellent throughout, the plot is always being developed in a most thrilling style and usually very close to the novel or short story it's based upon, and the atmosphere of the 1920s and 1930s is simply magnificent - this series is almost something like an 'addiction'; I haven't watched anythingelse during the past weeks, and I'm absolutely sure that I'll be watching every single DVD over and over again without ever getting tired of them!

A REAL treasure chest...
I'd been planning to buy this great collection for some time, and finally I was able to get it as a Christmas present - and what I got was a treasure chest in every sense of the word: two boxes with 35 DVDs containing ALL of the 70 episodes of that marvelous series starring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot; David Suchet who actually 'BECAME' Poirot in the 25 years during which he impersonated Agatha Christie's famous, eccentric Belgian sleuth, as he himself states in an interview which is also included in this priceless collection. Worth every penny. Excellent entertainment.
This was my treat to myself and turned out to be a good investment that has kept me entertained for many evenings. (5050 minutes is a lot of viewing .) I think Agatha Christie's mysteries are often better on screen than in book form as, although her plotting is clever, her characters - apart from the protagonist - were rather one dimensional and her settings were often a tad sketchy. With a cast of excellent actors, brilliantly dressed historically accurate sets and the superb performances by David Suchet these DVDS were a delight and will be something I will rewatch. The injection of a little gentle humour into the series' and the broadening out of the characters of Inspector Japp, Miss Lemmon and Captain Hastings into credible people was sensitively done without compromising the pace or plot of the originals. This box set included some fascinating extras - watching Suchet become Poirot bordered on the uncanny - and was worth every penny and I recommend it .

Excellent quality and packaging
Excellent quality and packaging. Some complained that the discs were awkward to get out. Yes they sre stacked but that’s an efficient way to compactly present them - saving you on storage space.

Quality of dvds not great, but superb acting by David Suchet as Poirot.
I absolutely adore Poirot acted by David Suchet, so brilliant. The story lines follow similar formats from one story to the next, but the acting never fails and keeps one entertained from start to finish. Only thing I dislike is the poor quality of the dvds, and the way they have been put inside the ridiculous dvd boxes: 2 of them holiday over 48 dvds which means they are bound to be scratched in places, and left with some finger marks. They do freeze rather often but I now clean each dvd prior to placing inside my portable dvd player with delicate cleaning OLED spray, drying them with a clean soft paper tissue and voila...the dvd plays without hardly freezing again. Quality also disappointing because the video is rather dark...but...overall, worth the money.

What not to dislike?
If you check the price daily, it changes from as low as £50 to as high as £75 very strange. You are still paying about £1.50 per disk. The ones I've tried so far have all worked well Others have said the disks are packed very tightly into 2 cases. true. But think of the shelf room you would need if this was not so. Some of the story's I remember, others are new to me. But even when you are not watching them for the first time they are still very enjoyable. I would have liked a full separate index of the story's and the disks they are on. A part from that they are a good buy. Added I have now downloaded and printed from IMDB a full eposode list for all 13 seasons. I think it adds greatly to the disks.

Brilliant series but the packaging is a shambles. The first episode is on Collection 2, disc 3: The Mysterious Affair at Styles
As others have said, this is The Definitive Poirot collection. The acting, the costumes, the props, everything is superb. However ITV have simply shoved the original 35 DVDs in 2 boxes with a nice picture on the front without re-ordering them or removing the stupid "You wouldn't steal a TV" (picture of two blokes shifting a huge old CRT telly out of a window) etc etc compulsory anti-piracy nonsense at the start of every disc except the last few or removing the nauseous Granada animated logo at the end of each episode obscuring the year of production. In order to understand how Poirot knows Hastings, you need to start with The Mysterious Affair at Styles, the first Poirot story. This is on Collection 2, disc 3!!! Evidently it was filmed a few years after the start and ITV left it there! The difficulty of extracting these discs from their stupid packaging meant that 4 episodes were unplayable, presumably damaged by being packed in this fashion. Amazon supplied a replacement box set speedily but insist on getting the defective set back, even paying postage, which strikes me as nonsense. Conclusion: use your little grey cells, overlook the awful packaging and enjoy the definitive Poirot!
