You may need to slightly loosen the locking screw on the thumb lock. You should have received a tool for doing this with your Felco pruner. You can oil any part of the pruner. If you prune shrubs or trees with a lot of sap, you should clean the sap build on the blades every few hours with a light sand paper and sharpen the blade with a Felco blade sharpener. If you sharpen on a regular basis it will only take a few seconds. Sometimes, like every few months, the pruner should be takin apart and sanded in between moving parts and oiled.
