I am glad I bought this book. The patterns are easy to trace and cut out. The step by step instructions are easy to follow and the end product (dolls) is adorable. I shall be busy with this for ages!

Great book - sewing with felt is easy and I sew to relax. Posted my doll photos to Facebook and had so many people wanting one, which is lovely. I’m not the best at hand sewing but even I could follow this. Great that the patterns in the book are full-sized. My only gripe is that I can’t stop floppy head syndrome on the dolls, especially after the weight of the wool hair. The more dolls I make, the more I improve though!

This is a great book and my seven year old has made two dolls out of it (we double the size of the patterns on a photo copier but keep the head patterns the same size). She has made outfits in a couple of hours by herself and loves dressing up her doll. Highly recommend this book. They also use this book at school for the sewing activity club and the dolls produced are amazing.

I bought this book for my eleven year old daughter who is a keen hand sewer. She has already made two dolls and they've both turned out beautifully. Shelly Down, the author, has a real knack for design and explanations. My daughter has plans to make two more dolls from the book and then wants to mix and match the patterns to create some dolls of her own design. A great book!

I am a beginner machine sewist and hadn't realised this was all hand stitching until the order was placed. I approached it with a bit of fear having never hand sewn more than a button before but was determined the dolls were so adorable that they would be worth any blood and tears shed over the course of the process. I needn't have feared - the writer is so descriptive, patterns so simple and pictures so clear that even little old me could figure it out! One doll without clothes has taken me a while to complete because I have a 4 month old baby who doesn't like being put down, but I think in total it has been about three hours' work. Now I need to make some clothes and a mermaid at the 5yr olds request (3yr old has adopted my first attempt already!). Don't be daunted, they are beautiful little dolls and well worth the effort :).

Leider gab's das Buch ja nicht auf Deutsch, die englische Variante war aber auch okay, die Bebilderung hat dabei (Übersetzung) natürlich auch geholfen. Habe schon zwei Puppen genäht, allerdings nur zur Probe mit einfachen Bastelfilz, der hält natürlich nicht soviel aus. Werde demnächst hochwertigeren Filz kaufen und mich an die nächste Puppenherstellung wagen. Die Haare bekomme ich leider noch nicht so richtig hin, was vllt. an den Übersetzungsschwierigkeiten liegt, aber bestimmt gibt es irgendwo im Internet auch dafür Tipps (Videos). Ich hätte ein Hartcover besser gefunden und es wäre sicherlich auch angenehmer, wenn die Schnittmuster nicht mitten im Buch zum Kopieren wären, denn das Buch muss ganz schön "leiden", wenn man eine Kopie machen will, da man es sehr fest auf den Drucker pressen muss, aber das ist naturlich nur meine persönliche Meinung. Der Inhalt und die Aufmachung (Layout) sind sehr liebevoll und detailliert, daher volle 5 Sterne.

I fell in love with the front cover doll and had to have. There are some variations to it, but essentially it is just one basic doll, which isn't surprising but just a teeny tad disappointing. On the other hand the instructions are very comprehensive (127 pages) both for the doll and her extensive wardrobe and accessories including all bags, baskets, satchels and suitcases etc. All the patterns are included ready for tracing off the page with no need to enlarge which is sooo good. Clearly this is going to be a labour of love. There are no shortcuts, everything is sewn by hand with tiny neat little stitches using embroidery thread. I am looking forward to a very serene and absorbing time.

I have purchased several Gingermelon patterns and they are easy to follow and always turn out great. This book is also very well done, with lots of easy to follow instructions and beautiful examples, and patterns of all the dolls through out the book. Before discovering Shelly Down's Gingermelon site I had never sewn felt characters before. Her patterns are too cute to resist, I have since learned how to do all the stitches needed to create several little dolls for my Grand daughter.
