Are the wheels free spinning or is it just for display? not obvious by the images provided.

I only just got this construction kit and cannot say for sure. I think the wheels rotate, but not independently, they are connected by half "axles" which are joined in the centre of the model. This is originally a Rosebud/Kitmaster model construction kit of over 50 years ago, which later became an Airfix kit - which was described thus - "embodies virtually all the detail and movable features of the actual locomotive". It was designed to fit on standard 00 and H0 track - 16.5mm. The kit was purchased by Dapol in the 1980s. I got this as a precursor to building the OcCre kit which is a much larger 1:24 scale. Hornby are about to re-release a new version of their Rocket model locomotive, with tender and carriages.

Where do I get assembly and paint instructions for this as none are included?

assembly instructions are usually included. for painting I follow the picture on the outside of plastic bag. otherwise you make up your own colour schemes.
