This lavish, colour atlas is a complete guide to the weird and wonderful geography of Tolkien's world. Packed with full page maps and illustrations of events in the annals of Middle-earth, it is the perfect companion to the bestselling A Dictionary of Tolkien . This book is unofficial and is not authorised by the Tolkien Estate or HarperCollins Publishers. Review: Easy and pleasant overview of a beautiful world - I loved the book! Don't say this a lot! Technically speaking I like this book as an artifact: great illustration selection, nice binding, well-formatted text. But the material is also of the highest quality. The author clearly has a very deep understanding of the source material and has put an amazing amount of effort to present it in the cleanest way possible. Every chapter represents an age in the world of Arda and includes a map, general chronology overview and concise texts explaining key topics, e.g. places of interest, characters, beasts, events. I've read most of the original published work in the universe, and it's not easy to get an overview of things from it. Tolkien's characters assume mythology and history of the world, and don't really go into deep and out-of-place explanations. In this book David Day provides a way into gaining this assumed knowledge. Even my 7 year old daughter enjoyed my explanations based on the book... I guess we'll go through Tolkien's books and Jackson's movies real soon. Review: Absolutely fantastic. - Absolutely fantastic. Much of it is new to me and has me fascinated. Beautifully produced, and the maps and illustration so informative. If I could give more than 5 stars I would - about 100 ????

Enchanting companion to Tolkien’s works
A beautifully produced guide to Tolkien’ s World. I cannot see how any fan of Tolkien could fail to be enchanted by the beautiful illustrations and inspiring text. As a Tolkien fan for more than 50 years highly recommended.

Great Book - previously available under a different title
Great book with beautiful illustrations and serves as a kind of primer for the Silmarillian if you dont have time to wade through that! The only reason I have dropped a star is that this book was previously published as 'Tolkien, An Illustrated Atlas' so I now have two copies (or at least I have one copy and a gift for a Tolkien appreciating friend!) and the different name didn't get caught by Amazon's helpful 'You Purchased this on ...' warning. However, the previous (totally identical with the exception of the title as far as I can see) is now going for three times the price of this one so it is a bargain on that basis too!

Beautiful faux leather bound book
Beautiful faux leather bound book, makes a very special present for any Lord of the Rings fan. Have bought this for my son for Christmas and I know he will love it. The illustrations are intricately done and take you through a trip of Middle Earth, providing detailed information for novices or experienced Tolkein lovers. Can't wait to have a good read of it myself.

Must have for fans of Tolkien!
This book was just beautiful. Not only does it aid in giving you a great visual representation of Tolkiens World but the book binding is just absolutely beautiful, genuinely makes the book look so exquisite! I bought this to give to my fella, educate him a bit more on middle earth & such. Kind of jealous I gave them to him now :p

A Great Companion to Tolkien's Legendarium!
David Day’s “An Atlas of Tolkien” builds upon the work he began in his “Tolkien Bestiary” to work as a guidebook to J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium. Though Day describes events from “The Silmarillion” through “The Hobbit” and finally “Lord of the Rings,” he does so only as necessary to explain matters of time and space in describing locations. Like his previous work, Day commissioned artists to create paintings illustrating Tolkien’s world. The volume works well as a companion and guide to Tolkien’s work, particularly as a reference for those looking to keep track of events during “The Silmarillion” or to refresh their memories about those events in “Lord of the Rings” which reference “The Silmarillion.” The contributing artists – Ivan Allen, John Blanche, Sally Davies, Michael Foreman, Linda Garland, Melvin Grant, David Kearney, Ian Miller, Andrew Mockett, Lidia Postma, and others – imbue the work with visual references as epic as the texts that inspired them while giving distinctive styles to each of the places and events in question. Day’s “Atlas of Tolkien” succeeds as a guidebook for fans while the binding of this edition gives it the appearance of a work that could exist in-universe.
