Xiegu X5105 OUTDOOR VERSION 5W 3800mAh HF TRANSCEIVER with IF Output, All Bands Covering SSB CW AM FM RTTY PSK Black

The Xiegu X5105 has come on leaps and bounds since the 1st batches were released, now we have the 2nd batch X5105’s where there is an extra screen protector over the display. We also now have dual channels on the headphone socket instead of mono with the 1st batches.. Since these became available we have had numerous firmware updates to fix reported bugs, plus new features added with more to come. We now have a built in antenna/SWR analyser which is great for testing an antennas resonance, if you like to play around or build various antennas then you wont need to go out and buy an expensive external analyser.. It also comes with PSK31 decode so you can see what is being sent by amateurs on HF with the X5105.. They have just added CTCSS tone function for working repeaters on 10 & 6 metres. I created a facebook group for Xiegu transceivers over 2 years ago and you will find all the information you could ever need on the Xiegu X5105. Search for “ xiegu X108G & X5105 facebook group” and you will fimd us.. We work very closely with Xiegu to get any bugs we find resolved, we usually get firmware update fixes within days, and we have on a few occasions got it the same day.. I will add that my self & a fellow radio amateur beta tested the X5105 for Xiegu the manufacturer over 12months ago prior to its actual release. So please be aware of this when you read the review. The channel is QRP HF radio, you wont go wrong with the X5105 and it costs half the price of the KX2/3 and with more features and all extras fitted as standard.. By the way, the review above says the X5105 gets hot whilst using and charging the internal battery at the same time, this is no longer the case and the length of time operting due to this no longer exists.. I asked Xiegu the manufacturer to add a option to switch out the charging process when running on external power whilst portable/mobile you can now do this in the menu, it will stop your external battery charging the internal battery when its depleted.. Im Herbst letzten Jahres erwarb ich ein X5101 aus der erste Charge. In den ersten Monaten funktionierte der kleine TRX sehr gut, auch die Firmware-Updates liefen nach ersten Schwierigkeiten klaglos, der TRX wurde zunehmend besser. Die Verarbeitung der ersten Geräte war noch nicht perfekt, nach einigen Monaten lies sich der interne Akku nicht mehr laden. Es war unklar, ob nun der Akku oder der interne Akku-Lader defekt war oder sogar beides. Nach mehrmaliger Rücksprache mit 'Das GUT' in China wurde mir die Option eingeräumt, das Gerät zurück zu schicken und im Austausch einen neuen X5101 vom Lagerort in Berlin zugesand zu bekommen. Als kleine Entschädigung für die Unannehmlichkeiten wurde ein CE-19 Interface kostenlos dazu gelegt. Ich bin von dem Service sehr beeindruckt. Das Austauschgerät ist aus der neuesten Fertigung, funktioniert einwandfrei und scheint auch besser verarbeitet zu sein, was äussere veränderte Details vermuten lassen. Insgesamt bin ich inzwischen sehr zufrieden und hoffe, dass mich der kleine TRX mit allen seinen interessanten Features lange begleiten wird ! Der Xiegu X5101 ist definitiv eine interessante und preiswerte Alternative zu anderen QRP-TRX auf dem Markt !

This is a great little QRP SDR HF Radio. It takes time, experimentation, patience, and persistence to make contacts with a QRP rig. If you aren't experienced enough or are not willing/able to put in the effort then this is probably not the best radio for you. However, if you are able and willing then you will not be disappointed. Note, this radio is sensitive, so you have to be careful with the input voltage. It is not sold with a power supply so you have but one separately. You really need to make sure you're using a regulated power supply or that you are running the power through some sort of regulated device. As much as I want to write this review about the X5105, I want to talk about the customer service of Radioddity just as much. I had some questions and issues with my X5105 and they went above and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of. Unfortunately, I had to find out the hard way that using a regulated power supply is extremely important. The power supply I purchased here on Amazon (*and returned very soon after) was not outputting the voltage indicated and caused an issue with the X5105. Radioddity was awesome! They assessed the situation and took care of it. This is what great customer service/care is all about. THANK YOU RADIODDITY! And just to be safe... I highly recommend purchasing the Square Trade warranty with this radio, just in case something happens so you can protect your purchase. The small purchase price is well worth it to protect your radio.

The ad on Amazon said I would get the latest firmware with all the fixes. Nope. This radio was shipped with firmware from Nov., 2018. The latest "official firmware" is Feb, 2019 and there is newer firmware in beta and ready to ship (this review written 8/7/19). So, radio is NOS (new old stock) and went back to vendor as such.

"The manufacturer has confirmed with below information, 1. The manufacturer suggests the proper time to use this radio is no more than 2 hours. One of the advantages from this radio is light and handy, the small size decide the radio heat dissipation potential won't be the best. (Some other popular brand such as KX3 also has the same situation). 2. You feel the radio is hot, that is because you have used it too long (a couple of hours). This is normal and radio has no firmware bug. 3. This radio is designed with built-in battery, when you connect external battery with the radio, it will be charged automatically. The manufacturer confirme user could use the radio while it is charging, but just no more than 1 hour. "

Excellent QRP radio. I used it for 2018 Field Day and had a blast. Also using for POTA activations and it's performing well. Has a builtin tuner and antenna analyzer that is very useful. If you purchase this radio make sure to join the Facebook group (search on "Xiegu X5105") to get info and firmware updates.
