Will this system work with growing Cannabis?

It does. That’s what I bought it for. I have a 4x4 tent. With that being said, I would just buy a co2 tank and regulator if I had to do it over. The co2 will only last around 2 hours at 1500ppm. All the mixing required gets old and it’s a sticky mess. But it does work, sorta. Bottom line, save up 300 more and get a real co2 system.

How tall is whole assembly without the tank base? I have a stand with 17.5 inches of clearance, want to make sure it fits

Not sure but the stand does not add height. I dont think youll make it with 17 inches.

I'd use the ZRDR 4L i have it on my 55 been almost a month and still has a good bit of time before empty.
