Expenive BUT worth it.
This is the best bit of sharpending kit I have ever bought. 8x3" size you can horne wide plane irons @90' and it's perfectley flat so makes it possable to lap a plane sole to a degree of accuracy beyond what is required. And it does produce a truely 'razer' sharp egde. Top quality, Very pleased, I recommend it.

Woodworkers beware, DMT are not what they used to be. 6 stones bought, 6 stones returned.
I am absolutely disgusted by just how bad DMTs quality control is nowadays, especially for the price tag. Attached are photos and a video from 3 DIFFERENT DMT stones of 2 different grits. Of the 6 I've ordered (2 from another seller), 2 had ramped edges, 1 was dished, 1 had a rippled surface, 1 had an area of anomalous grit that would not break-in and 1 was dented. Stones were double-checked for flatness with my Moore & Wright. ALL arrived with scratches on them due to DMTs silly insistence on having a pretty little window through which we can see the stone. What purpose does it serve, other than to allow the stone to be damaged in transit/storage? We know what stone were getting by virtue of it being printed on the box! A flimsy cardboard frame that never survives transit is also supposed to hold the stones in place. Not once have I opened a DMT stone and not found that thing to be crushed. That means not only do the stones get scratched up through that useless little window, it's flaccid cardboard frame means the damage isn't limited to a single area of the stone that is always exposed, oh no; Both things work in concert to ensure your £80 stone is scratched all over. Truly exceptional... Buy Atoma and never look back.

Factory damaged, quality control suspect ?.
DMT are some of the best on the market, this is not my first diamond stone, ! . However, I was disappointed to find this one arrived damaged. There’s no damage to the packaging, I can only assume this item was dropped onto a hard surface before wrapping I don’t wish to return it ( not easy to get in uk ) I’ll just have to live with it !

I've had this for just over one month. It's now got mirror like areas, i.e. there's no diamond coating left at all, after sharpening just chisels and plane blades. This is incredibly expensive for something that doesn't last, it already needs replacing.

Not up to DMT's usual standards
I already have DMT Coarse and Extra Coarse 'stones' - purchased around 8 and 4 years ago. They are both excellent in every way, and still reliable! But this is not the same. The metal surface on the 'business side' of this stone has several score marks running across it. My other stones' surfaces are pristine, with no score marks. You'd think even more care would be taken with an 'Extra Fine' surface! And although it is marked and sold as Extra Fine, it is actually rougher than my Coarse slab. There are no instructions to say it needs wearing in: I used my other stones from day one, without any additional prep. Disappointing quality, considering DMT's usual standards.

Poor qualiity
grinding marks on the surface. Bumpy and unusable for plane Irons. This should be better from DMT for goodness sake.

Get FINE if you can only have one!
These are excellent. I have the course, fine and extra fine 8” Dia-Sharp stones/plates and use all 3. The course grit works well to redefine a beveled edge for a blade with light damage, chipping or dings. Once I’ve done 5-6 strokes on each side I switch to the fine grit stone and do the same. At this point the blade is sharp but not razor sharp. I switch to the extra fine stone to finish the edge and make it sharp enough to shave. Don’t over press or over sharpen. Steady medium pressure for 5 full strokes per side. Lubricate with windex rinse with water when done and store dry in open air wrapped in paper towel. Takes practice. Watch YouTube for details. It’s not hard with a little practice. Long knives are trickier than short ones. For everyday kitchen knives you only *need* the FINE stone. I only use the extra fine when I run out of things to sharpen. If you could only have one get the 8” FINE stone.

... BRUTAL & def.
