I really don't understand how people can describe this as a good book. It isn't clear in many areas. Take the introduction. It tries to define the fluid based on Mohr's circle and unless you have done a unit in structures, you will not know what this is. He doesn't care about explaining it further, only he assumes you know it. Take Chapter 5. He provides a fairy clear argument about how to perform dimensional analysis, but when he explains how to non-dimensionalise the navier stokes equations, the explanation is brief and the reader is left confused. Finally, to see detailed solutions, you need to purchase another book, which is frustrating. Other authors, such as Pope's book on turbulence, provide the detailed solutions for free online so you can actually learn from them. What is the point of buying a textbook to learn and then not having access to the solution details to learn from? Too many authors believe adding 1000s of questions means the book is better when this isn't necessarily the case.

As a math major i bought this book while it was in discount ($20 which is quite reasonable even by turkish standards,literally cheaper than cost of print) to gain intuition for fluid mechanics, i am pleasantly surprised by rigourousness and readability of the book. It also came in perfect condition 1 day before estimated date of arrival and is not indian edition. The paper is a bit thin and font is kinda small but the book is 800 pages long, so i like not having to carry a kilogram of paper. All considered it is a must for library of anyone interested in fluid mechanics.

Better quality than expected. Only with little damage on the cover.

I honestly expected the eighth edition and the ninth has arrived (it will certainly be more updated). The author is not only White but the colleague Xue is added. The version is very simple but corresponds to the one ordered as a typology. There are black bands applied on the cover and I didn't quite understand what they cover. Anyway I'm satisfied.

Is essentially identical to the much more expensive hardcover version

Even though it said the quality was good this textbook looks brand new!
