Direct Replacement for the Friedland Version
I bought this to replace the Friedland bell we'd had for over 20 years. unfortunately the plastic in the old one had become brittle and cracked with age, and would no longer hold the batteries properly. This was an easy replacement as all the screw holes and wiring terminals are in exactly the same place making for a very easy swap out job. I believe that Honeywell took over Friedland which is why the products are still available under a different name. This door-bell has metal bars which are struck by a solenoid, rather like a xylophone, and it makes a pleasant sound unlike some of the cheap electronic doorbells with tiny little speakers. Not the loudest sound, but plenty loud enough for a reasonable sized house where residents have no hearing impairments.

Not the loudest but good value as long as it lasts!
Replaced a vintage Friedland with the ceramic tile in the centre with this due to redecoration and wanting a bright white bell. It's NOT a Friedland bell. It's a copy. It works well enough but is not as loud as my original Friedland bell. It is louder when fully installed than testing on the bench before installing so don't be too put off before installation. It's worth the money provided it lasts (some reports of short life span). Hoping running on batteries will not stress the bell too much rather than mains transformer. Will report back in a couple of years or if it dies prematurely!

Ring Doorbell Pro - works well together
Bought this doorbell as I wanted the Ring Doorbell Pro to work as much as possible like a traditional doorbell as far as the children, grandparents and partner were concerned. To make this doorbell sound when the Ring Doorbell Pro is pressed we did the following: Add the two wires from your Ring Transformer or in our case the Ring power plug in transformer to the Honeywell Ding Dong (T3 and 2) connectors. Connect the two wires from the doorbell button to the top two connectors on the Honeywell Ding Dong (0F and 1). *Add the Ring Power Pro Kit v2 device into the mix by connecting its two wires to the two left side connectors on the Honeywell Dong Dong (0F and T3). *in the UK the Ring Pro Power Kit v2 is supplied with a Ring doorbell pro as a way of bypassing a traditional doorbell. Therefore you must contact Ring to provide a you with the Ring Pro Power Kit v2 with the correct wiring connecting loom so that it activates a traditional doorbell. Basically this will then have wires with a special connector that you can fit into a slot that is covered by a sticker on the ring pro power kit v2. What makes the Honeywell Ding Dong better for Ring Doorbell Pro than the other doorbell sounders that can be powered by a transformer like a Byron 776, is the internal wiring is much much thicker. The Byron and others in the UK and Europe are rated for 8v. The Honeywell Ding Dong is rated for 16v and you can tell by the big difference in thickness of the internal writing of that doorbell sounder. As the Ring Doorbell can use more voltage you want a doorbell sounder that can take it.

Not very loud and 1 not 2 chimes
Says loud and 2 chimes to choose from, its not loud and only 1 chime. But it looks better than the previous one.

Not fit for pupose
I wanted to replace a very old ding-dong door bell that had suffered damage due to corroding batteries. This seemed like it would be an easy like-for-like replacement. However, that wasn't the case and I ended up messing around with it for some time. I found straight away that it was much quieter than the old one and definitely nowhere near the 80 dB claimed. Noting the comments of other reviewers I tried switching the chimes with those of my old one and although that was marginally better it was still inadequate. I tested the output of the batteries I was using and they were fine. To me it seemed like there was insufficient power supplied to solenoid to drive the piston/hammer fast enough. I noted that the total voltage of the batteries is 6 volts (4 x 1.5 volts), which is the same as my old unit, but my old unit was designed to use D-class 1.5 volt batteries whereas this modern one uses the less powerful C-class 1.5 volt batteries. Interestingly, if used with a transformer the unit accepts 8-16 volts (that's what is says on the box anyhow), so perhaps that is where the problem lies. Anyhow, in my experience these chimes are not fit for purpose at least when used with the necessary batteries. Incidentally, in the end I decided to replace it with a wireless doorbell - I had that up and running within 2 minutes of opening the box.

Clear sound, straightforward doorbell chime.
Bought this to replace an old Friedland doorbell chime, that was looking a bit faded after decades of perfect performance. It's a (near) exact replacement, the screwholes were in slightly different positions, but otherwise identical. This is a good doorbell for simplicity - it just rings "ding dong". My attempts to find an electronic replacement failed as they all sound dreadful compared with a real, physical hammer striking a metal chime. You do need wires between bellpush and chime - the old fashioned way.
