Light and Shadow covers the greatest hits from arguably the greatest composer of electronic music of all time. Vangelis has written and created many timeless film and television scores as well as releasing numerous successful solo albums. His work includes the critically acclaimed soundtrack to Ridley Scott’s 1982 film ‘Blade Runner’, Oliver Stone’s ‘Alexander’, ‘1492: Conquest of Paradise’; and the Oscar winning ‘Chariots Of Fire’ Review: Heavenly - Having been a fan of Vangelis for many many years I was sad to hear of his recent passing. I started to read more about his music and film CD's and came across this CD for sale, which I hadn't known about. In my personal opinion this album 'Light & Shadow' is sublime. Heavenly. It sums up exactly what I personally love about Vangelis' beautiful music. I would say that if you love the tracks 'Conquest of Paradise', 'Monastery of La Rabida', 'Light and Shadow' and 'Twenty Eighth Parallel' from the film album '1492 - Conquest of Paradise' you will love this too. These tracks are all on here too and it's great to hear them inserted in between the other beautiful tracks. Every track is worthy, in my opinion, of being here. I'm so glad I purchased it. It has to be my very favourite Vangelis album, with 'Conquest of Paradise' right behind it. :) Review: THE compilation to get - There are a confusing number of Vangelis compilation albums. If you only ever buy one, make it this one. Whoever put this set together has a real feel for what the man is all about. Chariots of Fire has been mercifully omitted for once. The tracks that are on here are from several albums and soundtracks, including some obscure ones, but they blend together beautiful. It makes good background listening for when you are working but for best results immerse yourself with good headphones and a darkened room. A particular highlight for me is the hauntingly beautiful Rachel's Song from Bladerunner, with sublime vocalising by Mary Hopkin. Chill out music doesn't come at a more perfect temperature than this.

MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
I FELL UNDER THE VANGELIS SPELL AS A KID WATCHING COSMOS. CARL SAGAN'S COSMOS, THE MUSIC WAS SO - PERFECT. IT WAS PART OF THE MAGIC OF EACH PROGRAMME. SADLY, COSMOS ISN;T INCLUDED ON THIS DISC. THERE'S A BIT OF BLADE RUNNER, MY FAVOURITE FILM, MORE FOR RUTGER HAUER THAN HARRISON FORD, AND AGAIN IT EVOKES THE CHARACTERS INVOLVED, THE COMPLEXITIES. CHARIOTS OF FIRE I CAN LIVE WITHOUT BUT IT'S STILL A DAMN GOOD THEME. WHAT STRUCK ME, HOWEVER, IN PLAYING THE VARIOUS TRACKS IS HOW LIKE A MOBILE RING TONE SAMPLER IT BEGAN TO FEEL - WHICH SHOWS THAT YOU CAN OUTGROW THE MUSIC WHICH WAS ONCE SO FORMATIVE. IT'S A DIP IN AND OUT CD. BUT WORTH IT.

Very Good Music
Very nice music easy to listen to with some very well known tunes not to be missed...So just to add that this is not rock an roll or pop . But more of classical music I have four Vangelis albums and each well worth buying for the mood of the tunes very relaxing

It is surprising how much this man has done the movie scores the albums his musical output is very impressive and what is more surprising is how much you find you actually know and that is the beauty of the best of albums , so if you only want a taster or if are in any doubt then this is what you want ,
