My 9 year old daughter is a theatre arts enthusiast. She's been writing, directing, and acting in plays at home with her 5 siblings since she could understand acting. In true actor's fashion, she "fainted" upon opening this gift. One of the plays in this book is "Little Late Riding Hood" which happens to be a play she was in over the summer where she played the monkey (replacing the wolf). These stories are fantastic, bringing some modern fun to old classics. Our whole family has been casted in each play, so we are practicing lines and having rehearsals that she has put together and directs. Not only is SHE having a blast, but all 8 of us are. It's a great family activity that will surely create memories that last a lifetime. For the price, you can't beat it! There are instructions and tips for each play along with suggestions which is wonderful if you are a drama teacher or teaching workshops to young kids. I would even recommend this book for high school kids that would appreciate the throwback to their younger days maybe even to break some tension after a big performance that they all worked really hard on. It's fun and can be molded by the students to make it even more unique. I would have loved doing this in high school after our performance of Fiddler on the Roof to unwind in class following the strenuous effort and time that went into that play. We have the paperback version. It arrived on time, packaging was perfect and kept the book in brand new condition. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed! Review: Great Readers Theater! - I bought this as a supplement to my Fairy Tale Unit. My Special Needs classroom really enjoyed reading (and later performing) the funny plays. I used the real plays and then these to compare and contrast the different fairy tales. We even ended up writing our own variation of a Fairy Tale based on one of these plays. These plays were perfect for my students reading a 2nd - early 3rd grade reading level. The lines were easy for them the memorize and read with expression. I found my students were able to understand the plays and it really helped make end of our Fairy Tale Unit fun!

Plays were a big hit!
Introduced at the end of school year in June. The classes loved it. We did one or two a week. All were engaging and wanted a part to play.

So perfect
My 3rd graders LOVE these plays! This is a 3-5th grade reading level. About 4 pages per play and they are really cute and fun! Also had teacher page with comprehension and writing ideas to go along with plays. Teacher must have!

A good book
I ordered this book for a 2nd grade class where I volunteer. They were excited about another play I brought in and I needed some more. We put on two and they had a great time and it inspired some of the kids to write their own plays. The only downside is I had to rip out the pages and copy them so everyone had their own part. It would have been nice if they were easier to remove and copy. Also, some of the struggling readers had a bit of a hard time with the vocabulary in the plays. But, it was very much enjoyed.

Great Reader's Theater Plays for 2nd-3rd Graders!
I am currently an Elementary Teacher and found these very fun Reader's Theater scripts to be so great after teaching students about traditional fairy tales. They are so funny and give a twist of the original story. Students need this kind of fun and ability to be creative and act on order to discover themselves. This is what is lacking within our own education system today.

great for children
Perfect for my granddaughters and their friends. Easy to read, comical, and can be preformed with only a few people and props. They are pretty short, so not a lot of lines to learn. The children can do it all by themselves.

These fairytale adaptations are okay...'fabulously funny' might be a tad generous as a description though. My 3rd/4th grade elementary students did not chuckle heartily, but read and used the tales without significant complaints. The pre and post reading / writing activities are helpful extensions.

I had a copy and lost it. I found one of the student copies of the Cheetah and the Sloth. I used it for my new class and they fell in love! Made stick puppets of animals for them to play/ Put it on for the parents to great applause. Had to get another copy. Next will be Spiderella.

For my students, whose English is fairly low, this book of plays will be really great.
