Effective Removal of Rust from Sandstone Patio
I have read some mixed reviews on whether Owatrol works as an effective treatment for rust stains. Having not tried anything other than general patio cleaner, I can't say if there are any other/better treatments out there, but I can say it worked for me. The stain has been on the patio for about a year. I can't comment on how good it may be on its main purpose as a wood cleaner, though. These are the steps that worked for me: 1. Lightly water the paving slabs and brush clear any excess water. 2. Pour Owatrol neat onto the whole of the rust stain. 3. Leave it for at least 10 minutes (don't know if even longer works even better). 4. Scrub the affected area (I used a stiff brush) to work on the stain (I didn't need to scrub a great deal). 5. Rinse off with plenty of water and brush off any remaining product 6. Repeat step 1 to 5 if not completely gone. It took two attempts for me and the rust stains have completely gone.

Not connvinced- still on the shelf after some years
Not convinced. I've maintained a boat's teak cockpit for 20+ years. Never got decent results with this. I'd always use a gentle scrape (Bahco scraper) - yes, it's more work, but less damage and far better results...

Removes rust
Patio slabs got rust from metal buried underneath by builders. Removed the rust. Use it once a year as rust comes through Would highly recommend

Don’t bother using it on rust marks.
Supposed to clean rust marks from stone. Nope.

Miraculously, a cleaning product that does exactly what it claims to do...a great rarity. That goes some way to explaining the price, which I had to build up to psychologically! Worth it to clean wood really effectively with pretty minimal effort.

Perfect for removing rust stains from patio
Read other reviews on here and found most people use this to remove rust stains from stone rather than cleaning wood. Was a bit sceptical but given the he other comments though I’d give it a try. We had three badly stained areas on our patio caused by rusting plant pots. Followed the instructions - wet the slabs, pour on neat, wait 20 mins, scrub with stiff brush then wash off - all now perfectly clean and no hassle at all. Brilliant results and now very happy.

DID NOT REMOVE GREEN STAINS FROM PRESSURE TREATMENT OF DECKING, NOR DID IT REMOVE THE BLACK ID STAMPS FROM THE LUMBER YARD. I suppose I'll have to sand down these stains/marks.. for what it's worth, it didn't seem to damage shrubs & plants around the deck..
