I see from the pictures that it can hold a Glock 19, but would anyone know if the G17 would fit?

Yes...my glock 22 40 cal fits like a glove plus I keep 2 15 round mags extra in it. Plus my glock 22 has a tlr 1 tac light on it

Does the hinge hold the top up when the top of the box is opened?

There is no spring tension on the hinge. The top part will not stand up on it's own. It will just lay flat on the surface the box is sitting on.

Does it have fire-resistant insulation? Can it withstand heat up to 1,500 degrees? If so what is the length of time?

No, not at all. It's a cheap case to keep your gun locked up. It's plain steel and foam. About as strong as a craftsman tool box.
