Basic math for dummies is a great way to learn math
Basic math for dummies is a great way to learn math, especially since I have a hard time comprehending instructions from a tutor I have a better understanding by just reading this book and I don't have the pressure of a tutor getting frustrated with me because I don't understand what she is saying.

Just Ok
This man talks to much in this book. But I get his persistence and motivation he’s trying to push out. Lol i understand now what other reviewers meant. I should’ve returned it. But don’t waste your money, keep looking. Too many scenarios and not enough problems and examples without all the other stuff. Sorry.

Just read the sample, and
Had a look at the sample. It was really wordy - "What if I told you I had a simple method for working out the sums you need to do in somewhere between a quarter and a half of questions in a typical numeracy exam? Such a method exists - the Table of Joy. I go into serious detail about this table in Chapter 8, but I also dot it about here and there in other chapters." Too much info that doesn't help me with math, too many "I" references. And...unfortunately its written the same way that my good old math teachers spoke to me about math. Yup, you could call me a dummy at math, and using math words to explain math words when I don't understand math words didn't help much. However I also learned to do some pretty complex math when in practical situations that required it. The trouble is not having an understanding foundation to put that on so it stays there permanently, and the sample didn't give supply one.

I want to retrain as an engineer at 40, but my maths is really rusty and this book laid it all out plain and simple. Colin (the author) has a lot of great tips for simplifying maths problems. This book assumes that you are a complete beginner at maths, then ramps up slowly in a way that won't destroy confidence. I really do find my maths has improved in my day to day problem solving in my head. Can't recommend it enough, and it's true, only smart people know that For Dummies are the best books to learn from!

I have awful flashbacks with regard to maths, and the shaming that went along with not being able to grasp some concepts. I'm hoping this book will help me to heal this little piece of my childhood, while allowing me to finally learn the mathematical tools I couldn't learn as a child. I was worried about the print size, as my eyesight isn't what it once was, but it seems okay. And the book is set out well, making it easy to follow. If it becomes too much of a strain on my eyes, I'll buy the kindle as well... Deep breath, as Colin Beveridge says, before diving in (or dipping a toe, in my case)...

Just great for revision. The World of Books is the best dealer I have ever bought from and both myself and daughter are pleased with their helpfulness and prompt customer service.
