Tough question in todays times - Compared to the crank dial items of 20 years ago - no it's not at all ez to set. Compared to most new ones it is at least quite intuitive and reasonably ez to set. I needed the manual for initial setup and am keeping it, but likely will never need to open manual again - so overall good to set. Question aside - I really like this clock radio!!

Does this get good radio reception? I've tried several different brands and all have been full of static and not clear.

Not great, not terrible in my opinion. I can tune the FM band to find stations, but I would never use this device to listen to music for extended periods of time. It's an alarm clock that allows you to wake to music as opposed to a loud buzz - it's really not designed for good quality listening. The speaker is very small. I turn it off immediately after waking.
