Much improved over the Gen 1
I've been a Micca fan for many years. Like many, I bought the original MB-42s, and then also bought the X models, and upgraded my original 42s with the crossover kit. They were amazing deals at the time when budget speakers that actually sounded good were rare. But, the original MB-42Xs were a bit bright in the mids, and other manufacturers came out with their own quality budget speakers. These Gen 2 models address the brightness issue, but are still dynamic to the point of being exciting. These are extremely well-balanced speakers for $100. Yeah, they really need a subwoofer to fill in the bottom end, but all speakers this small do. Add a sub, and they sound fantastic! Sure, you can buy better, but you'll spend a lot of money getting a speaker that is significantly better than these. I highly recommend these for small to mid sized rooms. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update, 5-24-24 Give these LOTS of break-in time, they won't be at their optimum until you have 100 or more hours on them. Seriously, it takes that long for them to loosen up. But when they do, they are dang amazing for $99 speakers! While not perfectly flat, they are close, and they only ere n the side of being exciting. Even without a sub, they produce decent bass. But where they shine is to keep the bass knob at ), and play them with a sub. Oh my goodness, you will believe you are listening to much larger speakers. I had these A/Bing with a pair of Klipsch RP towers, and they held their own far better than I ever expected. I like these better than the RBs, and they are cheaper. Micca has done it again! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 7-18-24 I've spent a good bit of time with these now, and am still enjoying them very much. The only real flaw I can find in the sound quality of these is that they are a touch fat in the lower midrange. It's not a big problem, but it is there. If using them without a sub, you'll be glad. If using a sub, just back the bass off a bit and it will clear up. It's not a big deal. For $100, these are some of the best speakers you will find. They handle power really well for smaller speakers, and should be very reliable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 9-15-24 The more I play these speakers, the better I like them. They are amazingly well balanced speakers, and they sound better than some that cost several times as much. The cabinets are sturdy, they are reasonably attractive, and judging by the other Micca speakers I have, they should hold up. These sound far larger than they are. I bought a second pair when they became available again. I play around with lots of speakers, and I'm not aware of another $99 speaker that is anywhere near this good. I hope they come out with a G2 center channel speaker; these would make an excellent surround sound system that would embarrass many more expensive systems. Good listening! Audio Nut

Great update to the MB42X
I recently received my new Micca G2 and wanted to give my impressions. I have had several sets of MB42X and the matching centers over the years. They were a very good bang for the buck speaker in a small package. The new G2 versions have refined the MB42X and it's noticeable to me. The overall fit and finish is better than the original. The G2 weigh a bit more and feel more solid. The "knock test" reveals a less hollow sound than the originals. The drivers are now closer together and the port is indeed flared out back. The line on the top is a small dado and gives a nice look to the speaker. I didn't think I would like it as much as I do and it helps distinguish them from the pervious offerings. The sound of this new version is truly a more relaxed (less bright) version of the Miccas. You really do notice the taming of the tweeter which was quite hot for a long time. While decent for HT it could be harsh for near field use. Without any EQ I noticed this new version is much easier to listen to with less fatigue. The detailing on these is good and the soundstage is decent overall, very good for a budget speaker. The bass is one place that shocked me. The overall amount of bass was impressive for the size and cost of this guy. Much like the original these sound like a larger speaker, which is a good thing. I feel these new versions go slightly lower and have a tighter bass sound. Are these RAP/EDM monsters...no, but for anything with normal bass levels they really can surprise. I particularly enjoyed these with acoustic tracks. I put on a few different tracks and this is where they came to life. What are they good for? - Whatever you want! Much like the original they bring a lot to the table. They are small, give a good overall sound and provide a decent low end at a great price. The toned down tweeter helps them in the nearfield roll for sure. Can I use these in an HT setup? - You bet! They do nicely in a HT roll. Keep in mind these aren't super sensitive but with an entry level AVR in a small/ medium room they do great. The low end allows you to cross the sub at 80 or lower which is nice for such a small speaker. Would you get these over the original? - For sure! For a $10 upcharge I would really get these new G2 versions. I did like the originals but not all people like the harsh top end. These address that and give a better fit and finish. Do these need a sub? - Depends on what music you're into. If you're into classic and acoustic then you should be good without one.

So far so good, massive amount of bang for your buck.
So, I have these hooked up with amazon special banana plugs, some good clean OFC shielded speaker wire to my RSL ia255.1 with my Modi 3+ and Loki mini + in conjunction with an RSL Speedwoofer 10e, and the sound is awesome. If you have access to an EQ, whether digital or physical, I'd recommend it. They sound good, but being able to adjust it to your ears will always be best. They're decent sized speakers, and play loud enough for my use. Setting them up was quick and easy with the speaker wire and banana plugs. They hold tight, with no perceived wiggle of loss of quality. I live in a 600sq foot studio, and I can hear these while washing dishes in my kitchen, so they're loud enough. You're not going to have a house party with these, but a small get together is not out of the question. I primarily use these for gaming, listening to music and watching TV shows/Movies/YT videos. The range of audio fits all my needs, and they function well. You WILL need an amp/dac with these, so you'll have no ability to control the volume without that. Overall, great speakers, especially for the price. I've spent more on worse.

really great sound for the price, far better than any 'computer speaker' i've tried
These sound WAY better than I expected for the price! These sound really nice. Some people say they EQ theirs a bit, I prefer them, so far, as is. This is the Gen 2 version, Micca MB42X G2. Full sound, lots of detail, voices are decent. They're not $2k speakers, but for ~$100+... I'm very very happy I got these. Smaller than I expected and still produce a pretty big full sound, and bass is tighter than I expected. Nice clean look, too. So far tried EDM, Jazz and some Classical.

amazing little speakers!!
Amazing little speakers ..what a great value!!! Placed these on speaker stand at ear level coupled with my subwoofer...honestly they sound as good as my vintage floor standing speakers. They do not reproduce bass as you might expect...but I didnt expect them to!! Use a subwoofer!!!

Best in class and beyond
I like these little guys. Iโve had the rb42s for five years so Iโm pretty familiar with those . In comparison these have more mid range and I find the bass more controlled. Good spacious sound stage and relaxing. Obviously if you want more bass then you would do well to add a subwoofer but they do produce nice bass on their own. Well done Micca

Ultimate Bargain Speaker
After reading a review of these on Audio Science Review (best A/V data on the planet!) I thought they would be just what I needed in my toy hauler. The review was great, but honestly I was STILL a bit shocked when I connected them to an amp, fed them some music, and listened. It is hard to fathom HOW these little speakers can sound so good, but they simply do! Even the low frequency response (which DOES benefit from an appropriately sized subwoofer) is surprising for something so small. Listening for a few hours (set them up out in the driveway working on motorcycles!) showed them to be accurate and non-fatiguing. The only TINY complaint that I can make is that as a small bookshelf speaker, I would have thought they would have a 1/4" threaded insert to aid mounting. I will fab a couple of mounts in my toy hauler when I finish a coupe of other mods. In this time of spiraling inflation, electronics are about the only thing decreasing in price. Yet here are a pair of speakers, obviously built with very inexpensive parts to hit this price point, that have amazing accuracy & "listenability". These deserve more than 5 stars, quite honestly!

Quality control
Very good sound just disappointed with the quality control as one of the speakers came with a bad install on the tweeter the screw is literally angled because the hole did not line up and the whole screw pattern is not as it is on the other it is like it got slightly turned or something i have sent a picture of both speaker tweeters to compare.

Ultieme instapper voor de beginnende plaatjesdraaier
Top! Mini speakertjes met grootse prestaties. Ze hangen hier via een Fosi Box X5 ( phono preamp ) en een Fosi Audio V3 versterker aan een Audio Technica LP70XBT Helemaal blij mee. Chili Peppers Tyler The Creator Radiohead Wu-Tang Clan, het werkt allemaal. Ja, ik zou ze zeker aanraden.

Small Speakers, Big Sound!
Wow, these little speakers are amazing! I heard they were good, but I didnโt expect them to sound this great. The sound is super clear, with nice detail and way more bass than I thought possible for their size. They look great too and feel solid. Honestly, Iโm really impressed โ perfect for a small room or desktop setup. Totally worth it!
