Review: Sleek and discreet Enclosure with a noisy PSU! - This enclousre has an aluminium other shell with a plastic inner tray for mounting the Hard Drive. The finish on the shell is great and it really gives the item a premium feel. The Plastic inner tray on the other hand does feel very 'plasticy', however with the ends of the tray being the only visible/accessible part of the tray once it's installed in the shell this isn't too much of a problem - especially since the textured design helps to reduce this. What is a bit of a problem however, is that the HDD tray only has 4 screw mounting holes (2 sets), meaning that with larger capacity drives you are unable to screw in all 4 mounting screws without modifying the tray first. Futher to this, the included power supply is incredibly noisy. It's a standard 12V 2A adapter with a twist off socket end for use with UK or EU sockets. Its very clear when it's on and produces a whine/hiss/squeak. I will probably end up replacing it. I do like the fact that the enclosure has a power button on the back to turn the drive on/off; this does stop the psu from making a sound. The transfer speeds seem to be fine, with my installed 6TB 7200rpm Toshiba X300 coming in at 158Mb read / 158Mb write. Pretty standard. It uses the USB 3.0 type B connector, which I prefer to the smaller USB 3.0 micro b as it's more robust - although, it would have been nice for it to use a USB 3.0 type C. Overall, for the price, I'm happy with the enclosure. The looks are good and fit in with a professional setup etc, the transfer speeds are as expected. If having the newer mounting holes for larger capacity drives isn't an issue, or that your happy to drill them in (like me) then this is a great option... just, replace that power supply.
