Why is art magical? How can it make us happy? How Art Can Make You Happy offers the keys to unlocking a rich and rewarding source of joy in life. This easy, breezy handbook is full of insight that will help regular people begin a more inspiring and less stressful relationship with art. With tips on how to visit museums, how to talk about art at cocktail parties, and how to let art wake you up to the world around you, this little guide makes it possible for anyone to fall in love with art, whether for the first time or all over again. Review: Fun and Interesting Read - I very much enjoyed Ms. Payne's perspective on the accessibility of Art....art with a small a....and how to pursue the notion that art can make you happy. Her message was not that all art is happy or that it shares a happy message....I'll stop my comment there so that a curious reader may pick up the book and read it. I did!! The thing about the book I liked the least about the book was the colored paper and print. Some pages were very difficult to read. While I respect the possibility, that being a challenge to see, may be part of the intended message, I did not enjoy reading on the colored paper. I like to carry a real book with me as I navigate through my day. When I have a free moment, and I am not drawing, I can read a page or two. The reading conditions are often less than ideal....hence my issue with the colored paper and print color and size. Review: Helpful - Wonderful. Short and sweet but definitely a way to start any interests in art. I've read it twice and have owned it for almost a year now.

Gives you reasoning to go see art
A nice, simple book. Exceeded my expectations and pumped my courage to go my local art museum.

Concept is good, visual design is a challenge.
I love the concept and found the graphic design lovely, until I sat down to actually read the book. The content is obscured due to the color choices on so many pages that are gorgeous but make reading a chore. Bronze, silver and yellow do not work well with a small font, period. If the designer's choices thwart the writer's ability to deliver a clear message, the writer should weigh in to insist on better readability. Form follows function, OK????? Perhaps I'm the only one who found reading this otherwise lovely book a chore for my tired eyes after a long day at work, and if so, I'm sure others will chime in.

A Positive Outlook "How-To"
My daughter asked for this book for Christmas. She now says the book is just what she hoped it would be.

Loved the message of this book and Bridget's voice and easy reading style. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I had a lot of trouble reading certain pages. While I found the book visually appealing, the combination of paper and color of print was distracting and at times hard for me to read.

Brilliant, Inspiring, and Fun
This book is brilliant. At first I was a bit thrown off by the informal writing style, but it is so effective in serving the book's purpose that it's actually kind of genius; Bridget Watson Payne's voice is that of an insightful, comforting, and hilarious friend that knows just what to say to make you feel soothed and inspired. (I hope she writes a thousand books because I want to come to her with all my problems) In this case, her words casually yet powerfully subvert everything that kind of sucks about the culture around art and get straight to what is actually important—experiencing the magic of art. I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants to spend less time fretting about the details of the art world—like what work is cool or important, how to buy the right art, how to walk into a fancy gallery even if you feel like you don't belong, and so on—and more time simply being moved by art. A quick, easy, and delightful read, full of great advice. Pro Tip: Anything published by Chronicle is worth getting in print form because of the amazing design work, and this bright and shiny book is no exception.

Expected better
Supposed to be a new copy but had a scratch across the front cover, was going to be a gift but now can't be. Bloody disappointment.
