Needs modifications
This board requires modification before it will function as intended. Found info on this on “instructables”. Requires the use of soldering iron to replace 2 SMD transistors. Better options are available.

Buyer beware
This shield is far from ready just to plug in and code it up. I bought it because it seemed to be a great price to get an Arduino Uno wifi enabled quickly. I wish I'd googled the shield first: turns out that the esp8266 chip needs flashed and some sites talk about desoldering connections on the board to get it working. With hindsight, it's much easier and cheaper just to buy an esp8266 or esp32 development board than trying to get this one working.

Not functional due to manufacturing error!
DollaTek produced three types of ESP-12E ESP8266 and this one is a non-functioning one due to a component error. I have returned it now but it was something to do with a 5v piece being used instead of a 3.3v piece. Ended up using an ethernet shield instead. Would rate 0 stars if possible as it had no application.

Not the item in the picture, send a counterfeit
Note that the picture in product description is in fact the genuine WangTongze board, but you are buying the counterfeit version. This board is fitted with incorrect shifting transistors (J3Y supposed to be J1Y)and another give away is the spelling on the board.

Klanten Amazon verkoopt deze DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART met een kapotte printplaat. Kijk op de printplaat of het woord “More” of Moer staat. Als het woord Moer opstaat is het door de fabrikant een afgekeurde printplaat. Ik heb die DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART gekocht op 2 oktober 2023 en ontdekte pas op 9-januari 2024 dat Amazon mij een defecte DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART had verkocht dus kan ik deze waarschijnlijk niet meer terug geven. Dit is waarschijnlijk ook de rede dat mijn Elegoo uno R3 defect is geraakt. Clientele Amazon sells this DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART with a broken circuit board. Look at the circuit board to see if it says the word "More" or Moet. If the word Moer is up, it is a rejected circuit board by the manufacturer. I bought that DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART on October 2, 2023 and only found out on January 9, 2024 that Amazon had sold me a defective DollaTek ESP-12E ESP8266 UART so I probably won't be able to give it back. This is probably also the reason that my Elegoo uno R3 has failed.
