Works great, even better with my modufication, easy to install. Keys to jeeps original key
Awesome product. You replace one of the standard lug nuts with a special lug nut/stud that you just removed. This new nut/stud has a raised rim around the end of the stud to engage with the lock. I should mention that the lock is easily keyed to your jeeps keys, very easy to do, so there is not another key to keep up with. There is also a metal collar that goes around the stud to prevent tampering of the stud. I am VERY security minded, so I placed a large washer on the stud, between the wheel and the lock. This washer completely covers the opening to access the stud. This addition may require a small bump with your fist to secure the lock, but prevents someone from grabbing the metal sleeve with a pair of vise grips, crimping the ring on the stud very tight, and then taking the whole lock and stud off, defeating your reason for buying it. If a theif wants something bad enough they will steal anything, but with my washer addition, I feel safer, but I am sure with just the lock, they will move onto the next jeep that doesn't have the lock. DO NOT BUY those so-called lug nuts, they are easily defeated, they would hardly slow down a pro.

Great product, quick install - 2015 Wrangler - Willys Edition
I installed the bolt lock on my 2015 Willys Wrangler. Install was extremely simple and I was able to program the lock in only a few seconds. This lock replaces one of the lug nuts and secures so that the lock spins freely. This means (in theory) vice grips and/or a large socket wrench will not work to remove the lock and steal the spare. I read reviews on the large size and was a bit worried about appearance. A day after install I got over that and now just see it as part of the vehicle. I use the bolt lock along with a mopar lug lock. The bolt lock looks to be a better theft deterrent, the mopar lock has a cleaner finish. My spare is still intact after two months in a neighborhood where I see a lot of missing spares. Bolt lock is a must have for Los Angeles or any city with trash/scrap pickers or theives looking for easy targets.

Buy new, not open package.
I have seen too many Jeeps riding around lately with a missing spare tire and did not want that to happen to my brand new spare. I first bought an open package deal from Amazon they claimed was complete and as new, BUT it had already been keyed to the original buyer's ignition key and was totally useless to me. I can't believe it was resold; anyway, I got a new ond and it took longer to get my tools out than to key it to my ignition key AND install it. I am very pleased with it's look and functionality.

Pricey but very good product.
Many of the reviews of this product are technically correct, but confusing. Maybe this will help: The lock works by replacing one of the stock lug nuts on your spare tire carrier studs with the one included with the large black and red cylinder lock. The lock then fits over the outside of the nut and locks on the grooved projection. If the length of the new lug nut MATCHES the depth of your wheel rim recess, everything works great. The problem is that Jeeps and their owners have dozens of wheel variations and many people find that the flats on the lug nut are still accessible if the recess is too shallow, or the lock will not lock if the recess is too deep. If you do your homework and order the right model number lock to fit your wheels, all will be fine. I followed instructions and ordered the recommended one for my 2013 Rubicon with stock wheels and it fit perfectly. Pros: Very well made, the key learn feature is great, appears very secure. Cons: Very long and sticks out even in the right size, very pricey. Bottom line: I'd buy it again.

A serious lock for not a lot of money
Just bought this for my 2016 2dr Sahara Jeep. There's not much I can add to the review that others haven't pointed out. I took one extra step by using blue Locktite for added security on the lug before installing. For my application, which is ordering the correct Bolt Lock for use on an OEM wheel (not a different size/style aftermarket), it offers enough security that I no longer worry if the tire will be easily stolen. The greatest plus is the fact that it pairs with your Jeep's ignition key. Simply insert your key, turn to the open position, and it's done! No spare keys to keep up with or lose. It was really that simple. I would (and have) recommend the Bolt Lock to others as a great alternative to cable and traditional wheel locks - that are also fairly easy to defeat by the way.

Too big and requires deep socket
Some of the reviews said it was too big but this thing is a trip hazard. I also hate that it requires a deep 3/4 inch socket...you cannot remove with a lug wrench. So you have to carry a lug wrench and a 1/2 inch ratchet and a deep 3/4.

Secures a rear mounted spare nicely
This is an excellent solution for securing a spare tire on the back of a Jeep. After my wife had her spare stolen while at work, we used a cable lock for a long time to secure the new spare. However, it was awkward to put on, and frankly, cable locks aren't much use. This replaces one of the lug nuts securing the spare tire and promises to be much more difficult to defeat. I can't speak to the lock core, it seems reasonable, but I'm not a locksmith, I'm sure it could be picked open reasonably easily by a professional. But most people trying to steal a tire aren't professionals, so it works well enough against that threat. It does stick out past the tire about half an inch, so if you have a tire cover on, that may be a concern. Almost forgot the most important feature! When you purchase it, you insert your ignition key into the lock and turn it. That sets the lock to your ignition key from then on (and it can't be rekeyed). So you don't have to carry an extra key just for the spare tire lock.

Well Built, BUT...
This is a nicely built lock and would likely create a delay for someone trying to steal your Jeep Wrangler spare tire. For my application, the lug nut is still somewhat exposed, but would require a specialty tool to remove when the lock is installed. Unfortunately due to it's size, it can't be used with the tire cover on (and I usually have mine on), for a stock Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I chose to keep it becuase I will likely remove the tire cover when traveling. Three stars because the description and packaging does not do a good job of telling you what it WONT fit.
