no noise
Purchased a 5'long electric fire for a media wall about 2 weeks ago. After 2 days a loud ticking noise started. I contacted the firm( Manchester warehouse but made in Hong Kong). They wanted me to wrap it up and send it back. I thought what a hassle. They then offered me a 10% refund- £33. I stripped it down, sent for this motor, fitted it ( a bit fiddly but 30mins tops) now have no noise and very pleased and £22 change in my pocket. Does the job well and have ordered another for a spare as I know these motors will dry out.

Replacement Synchronus Motor
Orderd item arrived the next day and once installed performs as good as the original. Being both CWand CCW is a minor annoyance. However the leads were too short by approx 15cm for my installation so I had to extend them. Overall a good product which meant my £300.00 electric radiator is now serviceable.

Replacement for noisy electric fire flame effect motor
The motor on our fire had been extremely noisy for weeks, a loud, repetitive knocking. Before ordering this replacement, I asked previous buyers if the motor became noisier with use because one reviewer had complained of this after a couple of weeks. I had several answers but Mr J Coyle said using WD40 to lubricate it (as they can dry out on the shelf) had been successful in reducing any noise. Well, many thanks to him because I tried this on the old motor before removing it from the fire and voila, after a few minutes, silence! If excessive noise is your problem then this is well worth a try before ordering a new one. I did order a replacement as a back up in case the old one has become excessively worn and I am concerned that the noise may return with a vengeance. As I have not installed it I cannot leave a valid review but I am sure it will do the job when needed. One reviewer complained about inconsistency in the direction of rotation as it is described as CW/CCW. Assuming the motor is not faulty, if you switch on and the direction is incorrect i.e. flame effect going into the simulated fuel bed rather than 'naturally up the chimney', then switching off and back on should change it to the opposite and desired direction. A tad less convenient that's all. Thanks to all buyers who responded to my question.

Good replacement for Dimplex Dakota optiflame motor, needs modifications though
My dimplex dakota fire lost the flame effect and worked out the optiflame motor had gone. Looked for a direct replacement and failed. Found a helpful review on this which indicated this may work. Took a punt and here's what I found. TURN OFF AT MAINS FIRST. THe existing motor had three wires, black brown and white and the new motor only two black wires. Removed the old motor (yes there's not much slack on the wires) and connected the black and brown wires to the two wires on the new motor. Put some heatshrink on the now redundundate white wires and turned on at the mains, bingo, worked first time. Unfortunately the screw holes don't align so had to drill new holes, 10 minutes later it was all mounted. Tidied the cabling up and put everything back together. 10 minutes later it was off again. I think the metal drive shaft is a little shorter and slightly less diameter than the previous one and it had become disconnected. Fixed with a small jubillee clip, working fine now. One think you must understand is the is a CW/CCW motor, is works clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) which is toggled by turning it on and off. No big deal to me but if you notice the flame is going the wrong way turn it off and on again and its sorted. Bit of a pain but a £10 fix vs a £170 new fire is a no brainer to me. Just ordered a spare in case this breaks, at least the screw holes will line up.

Works well
I used this to fix a Dimplex electric fire where the flame effect motor had got very noisy . It's not identical and needs a little modification , its simple to do just re drill the mounting holes and that's it , and it's also not £70 !! It's only a microwave turn table motor. The motor turns both ways so if it goes the wrong way just turn it off and on again it'll correct itself.

Motor
The product was to replace a motor on the flame effect on a fire. It’s has presented its own problem in that the motor does not rotate in one direction sometimes going forward sometimes in reverse, which results in the effect going into the fire instead of away up the chimney. You have to stop/start the fire until the right effect is achieved VERY PUZZLING.
