After working on it for 5-8 minutes I used one of those round rubber gripper type jar openers. It took a couple of more minutes but the lid FINALLY released. This cap design is worthless, especially for those of us with arthritis.

How the heck do you get the top off the applicator?

HELLO SANOFI! Look at all these comments! Why in the *%^+ do you make a product for arthritics that's impossible to open without causing more pain??? It's been FIVE years since this question was asked!

I know this is a childproof lid, but neither my husband or I can get the darn thing open. We squeezed the flat spots as we can. how does it work?

my mom can't get it open either, I just twist it realllly hard (without holding down the flat spots) and the plastic things inside lid will break then you can twist on and off easily. I don't know if that's how the manufacturer intended it to be opened, but that's the only way I can get them open.
