THIS IS EXCELLENT!!!! IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A TOPSOIL OR PEAT WITHOUT A TON OF STICKS IN IT ANYMORE. I HAVE CLAY SOIL AND THIS BLENDS IN TO REALLY HELP IT ABSORB, AS WELL AS BEING A REASONABLE PRICE POINT FOR 40LBS DELIVERED! IT IS BLACK.. RICH.. I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT IT. I WILL NEVER GO TO BIG CHAIN STORES FOR THIS AGAIN! PLUS I MIX A BIT OF PERLITE IN AND HZVE THE BEST HOUSEPLANT MIX IVE EVER USED. JUST WONDERFUL!!!!!

I was surprised to see reviews claiming this soil is wood-free. I’ve purchased two bags now, and both definitely contained wood pieces. While the soil quality looks good and performs well for general gardening, I wouldn't recommend it for starting delicate seeds unless you have the patience to pick through it first. I did start some onion seeds in this mix before switching to a dedicated seed-starting soil, and they are actually growing quite well! Keep in mind that you are paying a premium for the convenience of Amazon delivery; it is definitely cheaper if you go to a local hardware store like Home Depot. Overall, it's a solid choice for "to-your-door" convenience if you don't mind a bit of texture.
