INFORMATIVE!!! Well worth the cost!
My puppy was already 3 months old when I purchased this book--but I went back and the information was spot on for the first 3! It is the best source of concise information I have gotten yet for this breed. I was already into some of the behaviours with my puppy and the book told me the how and why and what to do to handle them! Instead of saying "what the heck is going on" and "how will I deal with this/" I can say--"oh,yeah , I was wondering when that would show up" and "this is what I need do." I took my 4 month old --57 pound--5" 2' German Shepard puppy on his first public outing yesterday. Using the tips from this book prior to the trip and using them in Pet Smart, I came away with a positive experience and the folks at Pet Smart loved the "little guy". I walked out with a dog I was proud of instead of skulking away vowing never to return. The advice and tips in this book are INVALUABLE and I will use it on going with my dog.

Great book for 1st time GSD owners
I've just got this book early today, and now I can't stop reading it. As a first time GSD owner myself, I found this book he extremely easy and fun to read. The information is just about right amount and answers every question I have. It also explores and analyzes the canine psychology for their normal and bad behaviors as they development through the life span. After you understand puppy psychology, you don't even need to memorize the solution to correct a specific unwanted behavior, the solution just comes up to you automatically. I feel like an dog behavior expert after reading this book, and it definitely helps me become more confident in raising up my puppy. Would recommend this book to all who are new to the GSD breed.

Helpful informaiton, no photos.
Good information. I like being able to go to the specific month and cry when I'm being chewed by my piranha. haha. No, it has good information and when applied with information from other books & the internet it's great. GSD's are a breed apart for sure and having confidence in raising them is key to having a stable, well balanced non-aggressive maniac in your home... and I mean me when the dog is not behaving well. Okay, I'm being silly but seriously the book is really good and helps you to know and understand some of the weird things going on with your dog. The only negative - where are the photos? I am a visual person and like to see approx. what I am up against insofar as size is concerned. My wee little fluff ball is only 3.5 mo. old. when she bites it seems like she has three heads but really she only has one. The knowledge is good but like all other books on dogs I would say compliment this with competent online learning. There are a lot of good sources out there and a lot of bad ones so a book like this helps you when you need to discern good from poor instruction. But seriously... no photos? That stinks.

Most infromative book I have ever read on German Shepherds growth stages
I have had 5 shepherds over the years. They have all been wonder friends and I miss them all. However after reading the German Shepherd Month by Month I have learned about the many errors I made in training them. If I would have known the various stages they go thru month by month, training would have been easier And my wonderful guys would have had a much better, happier puppyhood. They actually had to do a lot of self training when they became adults. My new friend will be born approx. Dec. 15. I will have him about valentine day. He will have a much easier and happier puppyhood because of this wonderful, informative book. I plan on keeping the book on breakfast room table with a book mark marking the month he is. And post on fridge a list of the important issues of that month for a reminder. There will be no scolding, just distraction from things he shouldn't do and a lot of praise and love.

Best book ever to learn about the breed and well written. Highly recommend
Incredibly well written. I’ve learned so much about gsd’s and this definitely relieved my training concerns with easy practical tips. Knowing how a dogs thinks, see things is invaluable to a well trained dog.

Great book! No other book quite like it
I really love this book. I am a first time pet parent to a 10 week old GSD puppy and this book has been so amazing. It teaches me what to expect month by month. Things such as temperament, development, health, growth, etc. It has helped me learn to be a better puppy parent by socializing her and taking her to meet many different people in her critical socialization period. Without this book I never would have known that. This book is very educational and helps me feel more confident. There is no book similar to this that I have found.

The is an excellent book as a matter of fact
The is an excellent book as a matter of fact; it one of the best books that I have ever read on dogs. I honestly believe that no other book can cover the first year of a German Shepherd's life as well as this one! It's written in simple, easy to understand language, is thorough and covers virtually (if not every) every aspect of the German Shepherd puppy. I highly recommend it to anyone who owns or is contemplating owning a German Shepherd puppy.

The Best GSD Book I Could Find
No one book can be all things to all people, but this one does as good a job as any for the GSD puppy owner. There was lots of useful information and I greatly appreciated the age-specific pointers. All in all I recommend it. While I commend the author for her cursory mention of the potential health issues related to over vaccinating and the possible benefits of a raw diet, I would have appreciated more discussion. I feel she was trying not to alienate the conventional market. There is a good deal more information available on these topics than there used to be, and too many authors are failing to warn new dog owners about these very critical issues (which they will NOT hear from their vets unless they are lucky enough to have a holistic one).

Lots of good ideas. I especially liked the suggestions for training. The advice on dealing with puppy frustrations was very timely and needed!

Your German Shepherd Puppy Month By Month is an indispensable guide to looking after a German Shepherd Puppy. I never owned a dog when growing up, so was pretty unaware of all the variables involved in raising a puppy, particularly a breed as challenging as German Shepherds. This book ensured that I was able to make an informed decision before making the commitment to buy a puppy and that once I brought her back into my home, I was able to fall back on the book for relevant guidance relating to her specific stage of development. The book is broken down into easily digestible chapters detailing the key developments to look out for and even giving tips on what training should be started in that month. The book is written by an American author, so some points are less relevant e.g. vaccination programmes are different. There are also highlighted bits in ever chapter such as tips and tails and happy puppy, all of which help to find key things which are especially relevant to that month of your puppy's development. I mislaid my first copy of this book on a train and immediately bought a replacement - it was one of the most sensible decisions I made since deciding to get a dog. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Awesome book. Carefully written by an obviously well informed breeder. This is not the kind of book that is just a generic dog book that could apply to any breed. This is very specifically for German Shepherds and informs you of the caracteristics that are proper to the breed, although it is a good tool for any dog owner, regardless of the breed.
