Instantly fixed my boat
My 1988 Bayliner has a 2.3 Ford OMC engine with Mallory YS621CV distributor. I was having an intermittent no spark issue at the spark plugs. Couldn't figure out why to the point I put the boat up for sale. A friend suggested to upgrade the iggnition components. So I ordered and installed this PerTronix ML-141C kit paired with the Pertronix 40511 Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, 40,000 Volt 3 Ohm coil. INSTANTLY fixed my issue and my boat has never run better. Install was easy and straightforward. Instructions were perfect. I downloaded the instructions ahead of time and ordered the components at the same time as the ignition necessary for me to build the ESA circuit required for my boat. Soldering that together and installing it in the right spot was super simple thanks to easy to understand instructions. Also perfectly bypassed the ballast wire with this kit. My only tip: Some people included in their reviews that they had to run a new 12V positive wire from ignition switch or alternator to the coil. Test your 12V positive wire that's already on the coil first. Here's how. Disconnect 12V wire from positive side of coil. With someone else at the key, have them turn the key on but NOT crank the engine. With your multimeter test that wire. You should get 12V or very close on the meter. Now with your meter still connected. Have the person turn they key all the way as if to start the boat. If you still see 12V on your meter while the key is in start position. You do NOT need to run a new 12V wire to the positive side of the coil. However, if your meter reads anything under 10 volts while the key is in start position, you must run a new 12V wire.

Excellent product for points replacement
I ordered this ignition replacement for a 153 Chevy 4 cylinder (120 Mercruiser) stern drive. Prior to installing it I was experiencing backfiring through the carb, difficulty starting, and weak spark in the cylinders. I have a replacement Mallory distributor with the breaker points system. I opted for the Pertronix replacement because I didn’t want to buy special tools, and have to deal with adjusting points. They were fairly worn anyhow so I went with the modern technology. This unit has made my boat run like brand new. Starts instantly, no backfiring, and great throttle response. No maintenance is a great bonus. A word to DIY’ers – I did have to adjust the timing after installation, the unit advanced my timing 8 degrees. Also it’s kind of a pain to get the plate in place properly since the screws holding it to the distributor body also hold the cap clamps, and the nuts are underneath. Still an easy install, just be patient.

Like a new engine...
Installed it together with the Flamethrower Coil 3ohms on my 2.3 OMC Cobra sterndrive and the difference is remarkable! Installation was easy and selfexplaining. Whe the wiring diagram it is easy to install a new +12V on ignition power line. I chose the terminal on the alternator and put a wire from there to the IgnitorI module. Engine start better, has a very smooth idle for a four-cylinder and reaches now its max rpms with the recomendet prop. Is really worth it!

Works well. Call Pertronix tech’s before ordering.
Pertronix Ignitor installation was easy. I installed it in a 2.3 liter OMC Cobra I/O boat motor. I do suggest calling Pertronix and speaking to one of the technicians there before ordering. Tell them what you have and let them do the conversion to the correct Pertronix P/N. Very helpful and knowledgeable people.

For my 1988 Bayliner 1750 OMC 2.3 L Ford Engine
Remove points and condenser, then literally drops right in. Really simple. Run wires to + and - terminals of coil and, viola! Done! I also added a 1.6 Ohm ballast resistor before the coil, to match what Pertronix wanted for 4-cyl engines (greater than 3 Ohms total). She runs!

Used it on my boat OMC Cobra 2.3. Works great n easy to install. I was having a problem with the boat stalling out n not starting back up after about a 15 minute of run time. With this install it doesn’t stall out any more.
