This book has nice clear chord diagrams compared with other books
This book has nice clear chord diagrams compared with other books. I used this book with kids learning ukulele at Sunday school. The pieces vary quite a bit in difficulty.

Got me started well, glad I got it
I was brand new to ukulele, this book got me started well. I like that the chord pictograms are shown for each song, also the tab notation I find fantastically easy to follow (treble clef notation given alongside). There are some concise and helpful sections at the back of the book, including strumming and picking patterns - I thought picking a pattern a bit advanced but tried it, found it easy, and now enjoy plucking random chords to sound nice as a relaxing background to family life. There are lots of well known tunes in this book, some fit the chords shown well (Drunken Sailor), others donโt go so well with the tune (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) or just have two chords and play one for two lines of the song (Brother John). Being an American book, some nursery rhymes have slightly different tunes to my UK versions - this lost a star for me. The songs are alphabetically arranged, so you donโt need to refer to contents page each time. I love my new uke! (ยฃ25 on offer from Malani). Bottom line: very quickly this book taught me to strum to tunes I know, pluck tunes note by note, and enjoy picking patterns. I would recommend.

Keeps the grandchildren amused!!
Got this to keep the grandchildren amused. I'm no George Formby but they seem to enjoy my efforts. Some of the songs I've never heard of but then I know a lot of rugby songs that no one else has heard as well. All good for practise.

Best tab (fingerpicking) book around
I think Iโve nearly bought my way through every ukulele book ever written and the ones by Thomas Ballinger are THE BEST!!! They give you really clear finger picking tab notations rather than just the chords and written verses. I will only be buying his books from now on!!!! Just need more variety (and more modern) songs to be published now!!!

Too many errors
Lots of songs have chords that donโt sound right and several contain clear errors. Doesnโt feel like anyone checked the contents of the book before it went to print.

lots of great songs and easy chords
The children in my class have enjoyed this book greatly. I have used it to play the ukulele for them to sing and dance. It has many wonderful familiar songs and easy to read chord diagrams along with musical notation for each song. There are no picutres.

good selection of songs
classic songs and good instructions. the pages are really thin, not good for a kid to play with, but good for a parent to play to the kid.

As a brand new ukulele player, I had a bit of trouble with some of the songs in this book (A bit more practice and I'm sure I'll get it though)

The songs are great! The only complaint I have is that the book is not spiral bound. I struggled to get the book to stay open to the page I was playing. I ended up taking it to be spiral bound and now itโs one of my go to books when working with kids.
