Band of Brothers [Blu-ray] [2001] [2011] [Region Free]

Good enough to keep me interested

I originally bought Band of Brothers on DVD when it was released back in 2001. I remember back even then, it felt like every episode was an event to appreciate with full concentration and no distractions, such was the importance of the story, the men whose tales of war are told so vividly, graphically both in the interviews pre-episode and then portrayed so brilliantly by all the actors involved. 20 years on it was time to upgrade to Blu-ray and this amazing series has never looked better and sounded more powerful. The battle scenes throughout are so realistic, bullets whistling past your ears from all side, explosions shaking your walls etc. Again I sat and watched in awe/silence the whole way through, it really is THAT good. Looking forward to watching the documentaries next :) If you havent already, BUY this and be blown away. A band of brothers who will make you laugh, cry, but most of all inspire. Cannot recommend it enough!

Fantastic series that I have watched several times. Well worth buying.

Everything about this is simply astounding. The story is pacy and gripping (given that it is true), the characterisation and the bond between teh characters and the empathy between the viewer and the characters, the production and effects, the pace of it and the mix between fighting and training/resting/reflection on the war. And then it is made even greater by interviews with the real cast of characters, the real Mjr Dick Winters and others from the 101st talking about the actual events that the series portrays. Without a doubt the best thing i have ever seen on a silver screen. Better than any WW2 movie (or any war movie in fact). Also, if you like this, you will probably like 'The Pacific'. A sister series by HBO following the Marines in the Pacific arena as they invade Japanese occupied islands. If BoB is 5 stars, then the Pacific is 4.5 stars, and pretty much all other TV / Movies can only achieve a max of 4.5 stars in comparison.

One of the best war films made, the DvD's played without any problems in the UK. The top of the DvD case was damaged upon delivery. Prompt delivery tho.

I recommend that anyone contemplating viewing this series also reads the book either before or after. Books offer details that simply cannot be included in film adaptations. They also include occasional inventions of the scriptwriters. Band of Brothers does contain some deliberate inaccuracies although these are slight. The acting and portrayal of events is thoroughly realistic, well-researched, believable and gripping. It is far better than any Hollywood portrayal of WW2 events mainly because of it's attention to characters afforded by its length and its attention to detail. If you are interested in this aspect of WW2 then I'm sure you would need little persuasion to see this. It is now an important historical document, as is the book and also the several later personal accounts by surviving members of E Company. Steven Ambrose does not quite do justice to the man who made this all possible, Pte. D. Kenyon Webster (portrayed in the drama) who first wrote of his time in training and combat in essays and later a book entitled Parachute Infantry which Ambrose quotes from many, many times in his WW2 books yet he never mentions Webster's writings except to say that he was a journalist after the war and also wrote about sharks. If it wasn't for Ambrose finding Webster's writing he would never have gone on to research E Company and then write the book 'Band Of Brothers'.

Acting is good. The whole storyline is good and easy to follow. Definitely worth watching.

Rated as the best series depicting WW2

I saw other reviewers saying this DVD set doesn’t play correctly. I play it on my Playstation 4 DVD player (which is compatible with Blu-Rays) and it looks gorgeous. It is possible some of the reviewers weren’t using a Blu-Ray compatible DVD player, so I just wanted to share that it works well with mine. This is an upgrade from the regular DVD set which I gave away as a gift. There is a clear upgrade in video quality and this version includes field guide notes during each episode that you can toggle on or off, interesting for tidbits of real-life history. I don’t recall if the original DVD has interviews with the real-life soldiers portrayed in the show before each episode, but reat assured this set does. All in all, the best single-season show I’ve ever watched, and it gets better with repeated viewings.
