Will Shortz Presents Terrifying Sudoku

This book appears to be the right level of difficulty as promised in the item description. It arrived on time. Very happy.

I like these puzzles but they aren't any harder than the beware! very challenging puzzles. Almost all of the require a triple. I think only one required a y wing. And unique rectangles blow these puzzles wide open. They are entertaining though. Just not much of a challenge.

I've purchased a number of Will Shortz' sudoku books over the years. I've enjoyed them all. But I've gotten fairly skilled at sudoku puzzles and now need to be challenged. This collection is truly challenging! To offer a sense of how difficult the "mind bending" category of puzzles is in this book -- in one recent puzzle, in a line where I had only one number given, I solved it only after recognizing that 5 numbers had to fall in 5 of the spaces in that line (exact positions unknown). This lead me to 3 numbers in the remaining spaces which gave me only one additional number answer in that line!!! I was still far from done with that puzzle. Clearly, this book is not for the newspaper or magazine sudoku player. You have to be pretty good at these. Other features I like about this book is that it's printed on good white paper that takes pen or pencil well and the puzzles are a good size (one to a page). I also like that the given numbers fill each square, making the puzzle easy to read -- although for those who like to make notes in the squares, this might be a bad feature.I also like the compact size of these books, i.e., the ones with the cartoon images on the cover. Note: not all of Will Shortz books are in compact size. The only minor criticism I have with this book is that in other editions of these books, Mr. Shortz included sudoku variations, such as random box sudoku and 12-digit sudoku. I enjoy the variations and would've liked to see them included.But except for that minor personal complaint, I highly recommend this book to the skilled sudoku player!

I have been using Sudoku for 3 years and especially in the last 2 years after by an accident not yet beeing abel to use my right arm and hand. I discovered Sudoku from my danish newspaper and after the accident startet bying books with Sudoky problems.From Amazon I first got the Menza number 3 with Sudoku, and then number 4. And number 4 was best for me concerning beeing difficult. But when I started bying other books I only found Will Shortz books to be as good and difficult as Menzas number 4. And had bought 4 of his books when there last year came the possibility to preeoder this new book. So I preeorder the "Terrifying SUDOKU" and got it 10 days ago and have until now from start on made the 50 of them. Only when having time in the afternoon and if there then are nothing I want to see in Tv.And I find that this book is maybee the best of the 5 books, made by Will Shortz, that I now owe. I could still use them a litle bit more difficult, and are looking foreward hoping that Will Shortz will next come with one more háving the same quality and beeing a bit more difficult.Gert Bo Thrgersen

I ordered this puzzle book as I was getting down to the last few Sudoku puzzles in another Shortz book. Even though the puzzles are titled "Mind-Melting", they're of varying difficulty, which works for me. I don't always want to work on a Sudoku that is going to take days (for me) to solve, but when I get one of those I do appreciate the sense of accomplishment when its solved.I got what I wanted - mostly. I like having a border on sides, top and bottom to work things out with a pen... another reason to go with Shortz. What would make this book better would be spiral binding so pages would lay flat. Its a small thing.Thanks, Will. I will be sending in my current puzzle book when its ALLLLLL DONE.

Bought for my wife for Christmas and she loved it!!

I enjoyed this book because all of the puzzles are very challenging (at least for me). I have been able to solve about 60% of the 50 or so I've started, each one takes me about an hour or more to do. I haven't bought a sudoku book that is more consistently challenging, at least for someone with my limited skill set. I would recommend it, particularly if you don't mind not being able to solve each one, or having to spend a long time working on one.

I am really enjoying this collection! I don't buy anything other than a Will Shortz-approved book to be sure the puzzles are of good quality. I've been doing Sudoku for years and so need very challenging puzzles - these are perfect! No, I can't solve all of them, at least not on the first try, but they are just what I was looking for.

At last a sudoku book which is really challenging and not three quarters full of simple puzzles before you get to the really hard ones. For me the 'ferocious' puzzles on the first few pages are easily managed but the 'mind melting'which make up the majority of the book are more fun even though I can't complete them all. Highly recommended.

Just what we expected.

Title sums it up. Challenging and not the hardest but fun nevertheless. I’ve done most of Will Shortz’ sudoku books. Hoping for more Will Shortz Sudoku books.

Will Shortz is the best editor. This book has mostly "very challenging/mind/melting" puzzles. Just what the doctor ordered.

Truly terrifying sudoku puzzles! Loving them.
