I bought this Coding for Beginners: Using Scratch book for my daughter to help her start learning the basics of coding, and it’s been brilliant. The book explains concepts in a way that’s easy to understand, even for young beginners, and the step-by-step projects really keep her engaged. She loves being able to create simple programs and games, and I like that it builds her confidence without her feeling overwhelmed. The examples are fun and clear, and she can work through them at her own pace. It’s also helpful having explanations alongside the activities so she understands what she’s doing, not just copying steps. If you’re looking for a gentle but effective introduction to coding for a child, this book is a great choice, beginner-friendly, well structured, and enjoyable to work through.

Along with their Beginner’s Guide to Python, this is yet another book where Usbourne show that 40+ years on from their 8bit programming books, they are still the masters of introducing programming in a clear and fun way. If you want to learn Scratch, this is an essential purchase!
