Are thwaw water soluble?

No. But if you want to spread them, use baby oil instead of water. Also, they don't have a tremendous amount of pigment. The case is great and mine is now filled with some of my other brands with the better Mungyo colors.

Does this set include portrait colors? How are these in comparison to the soft oil pastels version of these that are more expensive?

I like Caran D'Ache much better. These do not have the color saturation in this particular set.lots of colors but not great pigment.

What type of paper do you use with the water-soluble oil pastels?

I don't think they are water soluble. If they are I would use watercolor paper. I use either Bristol paper or pastel paper if you are putting a lot of layers on

Does it blend well with fingers?

You can bend them with fingers to an extent. I usually use stumps or paper towel for blending because I find it easier. I don’t use turpentine because it can be toxic. Soft pastels blend more easily, but of course, oil pastels are very powerful in color.I’ve used them for years!
